Me Vote Republican!
Posted by Frank J. at 11:54 AM | View blog reactions | Comments (26)

With over sixty percent in South Carolina voting for McCain or Huckabee, what exactly were they basing their vote on? Were they carefully reading about all the candidates up until the vote, or were they busy trying to see their anus in a mirror? Occam's razor points to the latter.

It looks like it's going to be near impossible to get to get a Republican elected in the general election if its this hard getting one elected in a Republican primary.

Rating: 2.8/5 (2 votes cast)

I agree. At my age, I've never seen so many factions within the Republican Party - or the country, for that matter. It's possible that we're a hop-skip-and-a-jump away from political chaos.

I saw on a link from Instapundit a survey of Thompson voters (alleged as it was a internet self survey) on who they would vote for if they did not have Thompson. When I looked Romney got 75%, Rudy a good amount with Macain and Huck getting very little.

There are two potential conclusions. First, maybe a lot more of Romney fans read Instapundit than you would think. Second, Thompson supporters are a lot smarter than the general population and realize there is no way to trust that Macain and Huck will represent good conservative governance.

While I never trust internet polling I do believe it is accurate in showing we Thompson supporters are "smarter than the average bear."

Way to go dr. bringdown.

...Trying to come up with a witty refutation to this analysis.......

Umm, nope.

#3 - Posted by: on January 21, 2008 12:19 PM

Maybe they thought they were voting against McCain and Huckabee?

#4 - Posted by: AR on January 21, 2008 12:20 PM

But...but...that means *shudder* "they" have a chance.
Thanks a lot, Frank.
And it's Monday, too. I mean, I guess I can live with Romney as the nominee if I have to. But any of these other yahoo's? (other than Fred! of course) I mean really....

There is no excuse in the internet age for whining that Fred Thompson was "late".
Primary Voters have the duty to check up on
all the candidates.
A quick glance at the net would have shown:
1 McCain is a Rinoburger with Cheese and Lettuce.
2 STFUabee is a lying socialist
3 Mitt and Rudy were for illegal invaders before
they were aqainst them.
4 Ron Paul is Dennis Kuchinich Father

But I Guess THE RINO LORDS have spoken and 5 states have decided the entire election.

Shame South Carolina !! What a joke!! What a disgrace!!

#6 - Posted by: Mike from Mercerville NJ on January 21, 2008 12:30 PM

I blame our stupid party for allowing independents and dems to vote. If SC was a closed primary, McCain wouldn't have won.

#7 - Posted by: on January 21, 2008 12:31 PM

Thanks a lot GWB, for all the great conservative “leadership” as the head of the party! Now we are assaulted not only by idiots who are supporting a total whack job (some homo named Rue Paul or something) or we have “republicans” voting for guys that support illegal immigration, tax increases, love fat ole’ Teddy and Diane Feinstein or we have Huckleberry Hound running around doing his Gomer Pyle impression!!! And we’re suppose to beat “Herself” or the “Magic Negro” with this act? Good Luck! Again, thanks again to Mr. Bush and the “genius” Karl Rove (who managed to lose the congress for Republicans, by the way!

#8 - Posted by: ussjimmycarter on January 21, 2008 12:42 PM

looks like the majority of voters are looking for entertainment, not a potential POTUS. Instead of debates: lets have Huck playing his gee-tawr and Mccain do his majick . Rpaul can give blimp rides, and instead of going to a polling place, phone text your choice.Ryan Secrest can MC, with Brittany or Lindsey.

Unfortunately, doesn't leave a place for the adults this election cycle.

There is much talk of how the democrat party left its old members behind in favor of the far-left movement.

Well, there is no doubt that the Republican party is going the same way... leaving Conservatives behind in favor of "moderates" and "mavericks."

This is exactly why I have never registered with a party... and will remain a proud independent Conservative until we have a party that truly represents us.

Maybe we should start our own... and maybe Fred will agree to lead us. We may not win for a while, but at least we'll separate from the imposters and fools.

#10 - Posted by: Devil_Dog on January 21, 2008 01:08 PM

I don't care much for Republicans anymore. I'd like a *conservative*.

As far as another party...there is such a thing as the Constitution Party. If the GOP nominates someone like Huckabee or McCain, I'm sure as heck not voting for either man nor, as some libertarians are doubtless planning to do to "punish" us, vote for a Dem.

Could be a prime opportunity to get a 3rd party in there, especially with a superb candidate like Fred.

#11 - Posted by: Jen on January 21, 2008 01:17 PM

#10 -- you definitely are on to something.

Wrote about the same type of idea here: http://independentthinking.wordpress.com

#12 - Posted by: r2streu on January 21, 2008 01:18 PM

A majority of Americans look upon 3rd parties as cults. And if RP supporters punish the Republican Party by voting Democrat... Well, why would a sane person elect a Socialist to steal their property?

If there is a conservative 3rd party candidate, he would draw votes awary from the Republican candidate, guaranteeing a Dem POTUS. To counter, how about Joe Liberman to pull away disenfranchised Democrats from Hillary or Obama, instead?

#13 - Posted by: Jimmy on January 21, 2008 01:33 PM

Some reasons, none of which you'll like.

1) Electability. Thompson and Romney lose to Hillary and Obama by double digits. McCain actually leads them in some polls.

2) It's McCain's Turn. Hate to say it, Republicans have a habit of recycling candidates. Reagan won on his third try, Bush-41 on his second, Dole on his third. Dems will pull a guy from the back of the room. McCain may be prevailing because some feel it's "his turn".

3) Lesser of five evils. For their faults, Huck and McCain are better than the alternatives to many. Fred is indiffent to his own campaign. Romney belongs to a weird religion and appears to be an android. Rudy is a gun-grabbing, pro-abortion liberal with kids who will do commercials for the opposing party.

#14 - Posted by: JoeB131 on January 21, 2008 01:34 PM

I suppose the fundemental question is this: Is the American electorate turning to the Left? Is this round of historical pendulum swings going to sweep in a new era of popular socialism? It would seem so. Please tell me I'm wrong. Somebody...

#15 - Posted by: Jimmy on January 21, 2008 01:45 PM

Oh, yeah, and #4

Guiliani and Romney largely ceded SC to McCain to that he would have a better chance of killing off Huckabee for them. Thompson was essentially doing McCain's dirty work of attacking Huck, and no one really takes a stalking horse seriously. Essentially, this stops Huck's campaign (where does he win if he can't win SC), letting

I agree, all of this means that we give far too much credence to these early primaries. Three caucuses and three primaries, and half the candidates are technically dead or dying.

Its looking more and more like you are right.
People seem to be looking for equality and a handout instead of fairness and a chance to do better.

#17 - Posted by: Corsair on January 21, 2008 01:56 PM

#15:

I don't think the electorate is swinging to the left... at least not intentionally. Please remember that we have an established media/hollywood complex that sells liberal socialists as if they were rock stars. They use the electorate's mass ignorance against them... and, ultimately, against us all.

So, we definitely have a woefully uninformed electorate... but I think that the vast majority are still basically Conservative at heart-- as most Americans have always been.

Usually, when you corner an average democrat voter on issues like wealth redistribution, you can eventually get them to understand how fundamentally unfair and unAmerican it really is.

Education is the key... and the liberal professors have been doing their job. So, now we need to step up and try to make people understand the truth. That's where Mr. Reagan was the master...

Whew... sorry for the lon-windedness.

Many chose not to for Fred Thompson because he sucks.

#19 - Posted by: NoFred on January 21, 2008 02:08 PM

Many chose to for Ron Paul (pbuh) because he swallows.

#20 - Posted by: RON PAUL RULZ!!! on January 21, 2008 02:49 PM

at this point, of the 3 republicans who seem to still have a chance there is only one I'd vote for over Hillary or Obama

#21 - Posted by: Scooter on January 21, 2008 04:33 PM

Don't forget Cindy Sheehan and the "Green party"

#22 - Posted by: Alan on January 21, 2008 05:00 PM

Of the "Conservatives" left in the race I'd have to vote for
1) Fred Thompson
2) Mitt Romney
3) John McCain (I hate saying that!)
4) Hukelberry Hound
5)Rudy
6) "Herself"
7) "The Magic Negro"
8) "Silky Pony
9) Rue Paul

"Were they carefully reading about all the candidates up until the vote, or were they busy trying to see their anus in a mirror?"
Thank you Frank.
I have wondered for years how Americans prepare before they vote.

Perhaps they need to take Occam's razer to their anus, Frank, instead of a mirror.
