Fred Thompson Named First-Ballot Hall of Fame Inductee
Posted by Cadet Happy at 10:15 PM | View blog reactions | Comments (22)

Former presidential candidate Fred Thompson was elected to the Footnote to History Hall of Fame Tuesday. Thompson received 98.5% of the 545 ballots cast, just missing the record percentage of 98.84% posted by Eugene McCarthy in 1992. Thompson joins such historical luminaries as Harold Stassen, Ross Perot, Adlai Stevenson, Walter Mondale, Thomas Dewey, Wendell Willkie, Horatio Seymour, Charles Pickney, and Rufus King. Thompson called a Tuesday afternoon press conference to discuss his induction, but, unfortunately, no reporters showed up.

You're mean. This post is literally troll-bait anyway.

this post was SUPPOSED to come next weekend when the NFL hall of fame was announced, but it was not to be -- unfortunately, fred gave up too early -- by this time next week, he will be a distant memory

Fred dropping out is a pity. Now instead of voting FOR someone in November, I'll have to content myself with voting against someone.

I echo the sentiments of Steamboat McGoo.

Who on earth is Rufus King? I guess I must be too young, since the only context I've heard of him in is Rufus T. King High School in Milwaukee, which beat my school in the state boys' basketball championship when I was a freshman. :p

That's not the Footnote to History Hall of Fame, it is the U.S. Astronaut Hall of Fame.

I bet there really isn't a Footote to Hisory Hall of Fame at all. I hope FrankJ crushes your balls in a vice for associating FDT with the likes of Walter Mondale. A joke's a joke, but that is really over the line.

I concur.

I'm glad Dead Thompson is no longer diluting the vote. I'm also glad he quit right when I wanted him to. He was a tool to squash the Shmuckabee momentum. I would've voted for him though if he was a conservative. Seeing as he was a big time McCain fan in the senate and voted against impeaching Clinton he deserves nothing more than footnote status. But, eh.

Note to ussjimmycarter. Your submarine is in port in Bangor! When you gettin' off?

(There's nothin' to say about this entry of yours, Cadet Not So Happy)

I had not been informed of Thompson's bowing out.

Heath Ledger's death has been the only thing I've seen on the news today. Sadly, the new Joker's demise is probably more important, historically. He was also the more convincing actor.

Cadet Happy, you're an ass.

And no, don't let your twisted mind take that as a compliment.

OKAY OKAY OKAY

I take it back! Leggo my arm!

Now that Thompson has endorsed McCain, are we gonna get a flood of Daily John McCain Facts? I hope not - the Fred ones were tiresome enough.

I said it before and I'll say it again - if McCain's the one, you all better pray for Hillary to beat Obama. Old Coot beats Nasty Bitch, but Magic Negro beats Old Coot.

Here's hoping there are enough NYC retirees to put Rudy over the top in Florida...

We're just 'reloading" and then we'll be off again to protect America with an awesome Attack Nuclear Submarine with a very unfortunate name... We're a little pissed too that Fred Thompson dropped out of the race so don't push us or we might launch at say...California or MA...

#15 - Posted by: ussjimmycarter on January 23, 2008 07:42 AM

I love Fred, but I have to admit that's funny.

bunkerboy - Thank you for not gloating. The way you posted during the Thompson campaign I expected you to celebrate like a liberal after a terrorist attack. However, I have not heard anything about Thompson endorsing campaign. Either post a link or stop lying.

Ironically, the little Polling Point Survey ad that came up on my computer with this page asked, "Will Thompson get your vote in 2008?"...complete with a picture of Fred.

Wouldn't SC and IO make better targets for your holy vengeance? Just a thought.

#19 - Posted by: AR on January 23, 2008 01:02 PM

Hey at least he saw that he was not getting 10% of the GOP....he bowed out with CLASS....BUT...Ron palsy has no class....he needs to drop out!!!

Look...don't make me come down there!!! Fred is my favorite and Carl Cameron of Fox News says Fred will accept a VP spot...hey the VP is always the guy who is the Pitt Bull....works for me!!!

#20 - Posted by: charmingtail on January 23, 2008 09:04 PM

Imagine the hissy fits the left wold throw with Fred as Veep. After all the "Cheney is pulling Bush's strings!" tripe, Thompson ought to really starch their panties.
