FYI
Posted by Frank J. at 02:10 PM | View blog reactions | Comments (22)

Now that the writer's strike is over, here is what's going to happen to a number of popular shows. Very important information for people like my wife and I (me and my wife? -- I forget which one is grammatically correct there).

UPDATE:

My confusion on the grammar was more of an "me" versus "I" thing since I thought "like" was a special verb like "is" where "It is I" is grammatically correct and "It's me" ain't (well, it's not as correct). Taking another look, though, like isn't a verb at all and I actually have a sentence fragment. Oh well.

"Me and my wife"

Aren't most of "teh gheys" in your party? Why don't you ask one of them to "SUCK IT", as you so eloquently put it?

I think it's "my wife and me," actually.

And I'm now really happy, since it means more Heroes snark to come. Yayz!

"my wife and me."
When in doubt, remove the other person and your automatic grammar ear will "hear" the right pronoun.

It's not too hard to choose between "that's important to I" and "that's important to me." :)

Frank, you need to consult with Gozer the Grammarian. Me.

#6 - Posted by: Jimmy on February 12, 2008 02:54 PM

You can remember the rule easily by removing the other person from the sentence and see if it still makes sense.

Grandma and me went to the movies.
or
Grandma and I went to the movies.
??
Removing "Grandma"
"Me went to the movies" is bad
"I went to the movies" is good.

Grandma took Billy and I to the movies
or
Grandma took Billy and me to the movies
??
Removing "Billy"
"Grandma took I to the movies" is bad
"Grandma took me to the movies" is good

Always put yourself last as courtesy. Grammatically, you and the others are either a "subject" or an "object" so "me and Billy" or "I and Grandma" are grammatically correct, but courtesy demands that you put others first.

Our long national TV crisis seems to be nearing an end...

They really need to get a life over there at IGN. Sure, I miss "24" as much as the next guy, but sheesh!

[In their defense, watching TV is kinda their job. -Ed.]

wAAt. Powerful vid there Yeba. You always finding the beebarf! McCain is toast. It proves that right wingers are poflecks and sluz nuts with their creepy desire to stay in iraq and see peeps die. These place sucks. Lets ditch and find a new Krispy Kreme.

The sentence:

"Very important information for people like my wife and I (me and my wife?"

should have actually read as:

"It is very important information for people like my wife and me."

"is" in this case would have been the verb and you would have avoided the sentence fragment.

"I" is a pronoun that must be the subject of a verb. "Me" is a pronoun that must be the object of the verb. The easiest way to decipher the two is to remove the other noun from the sentence and see if it still makes sense.

Grammar is merely a construct created to control thought, YOU are a Fascist PIG! FASCIST PIG-DOG I SAY! YOU'RE NOTHING BUT A WORTHLESS FASCIST PIG-DOG! THAT IS RIGHT, NOTHING BUT A VILE WORTHLESS FASCIST PIG-DOG!

#12 - Posted by: AR on February 12, 2008 04:59 PM

Frank, since when do you give a shit about words?

All right! Where's Frank and who is this imposter, Aquaman?

#13 - Posted by: Fearless Leader on February 12, 2008 05:08 PM

yeah. it seems strange to me that frank would worry about the grammer in this post when he's never shown such concern before...

our little boy is growing up so fast!

"NOTHING BUT A VILE WORTHLESS FASCIST PIG-DOG"

Whoah. HOLD ON HERE A MINUTE!

I understood it to be the traditional socialist position that EVERYTHING had value, including vile fascist pig dogs. Yet you are describing vile fascists pig dogs as worthless. What are you? Some vile fascist pig dog discriminator?

Whats this world comng to when vile fascist pig dogs cant be free to be themselves whithout being denigrated by closed minded persons? Im reporting this to the Vile Fascist Pig Dog Association.

Your in BIG trouble NOW

What are the odds...

#19 - Posted by: AlanABQ on February 13, 2008 12:34 AM

Aiee, grammar makes head thingy hurt! No more grammars!!1

Still nothing on House and CSI, tsk. At least I still got Torchwood (try it if you like so-bad-it's-good fanfic, but be careful, some of it is slasher) and Doctor Who starts again soon.

#21 - Posted by: Francesco Poli on February 13, 2008 05:25 PM
