Can't Shake the Devil's Hand and Say You're Only Kidding

Obama's new theme song:

From The Conservative Intelligencer.

Being a They Might be Giants fan, I can't believe I didn't think of this song myself as soon as the Wright scandal popped up.

How can you tell FrankJ is secure in his manhood?
Being a They Might be Giants fan,

Well, that and he hasn't beaten Harvey with a baseball bat for his p-shops.
At least as far as I know.

You called Reverend Wright the devil! You racist honkey! R-A-C-I-S-T

#2 - Posted by: MarkoMancuso on March 31, 2008 02:53 PM

You're racist for saying the word racist! Wait a second that makes me racist...OH NO WE'RE ALL RACIST.

#3 - Posted by: mateo on March 31, 2008 03:15 PM

I am so glad to hear you are a TMBG fan! I love TMBG!

Oh yeah, and the Reverend Wright is a racist. I will never forget one of my Sociology of Education profs twisting logic into yoga pretzels trying to explain to me how the ideas she was putting forth, which patronized all nonwhites as being inferior and therefore needing special remedial effort, were somehow not racist because they were trying to help the oppressed.

#4 - Posted by: Wacky Hermit on March 31, 2008 03:15 PM

America not racist, religionist. Only god can forgive.

#5 - Posted by: jim on March 31, 2008 04:03 PM

First said, TMBG rocks.

Second, what a perfect match for the song! I will never again be able to listen to "Flood" (or "Lincoln", or whatever the *%** album it was on) without seeing this new association. Thanks a lot.

Great TMBG flashback! I'm digging out the old cassette tapes so I can hear "Put Your Hand Inside the Puppet Head" and "Particle Man."

Flood is still my favorite album, but their first album, the pink one, had one of my favorite songs by TMBG -- something about following an angel. I heard it the first night I ever got blitzed -- at Boy Scout camp, no less. Heh.

Particle Man, Particle Man!
Does the things a particle can.
What's he like? It's not important.
Particle Man.
Is he a dot or is he a speck?
When he's underwater does he get wet
or does the water get him instead?
Nobody knows.
Particle Man.

My internet provider will love you, Frank. It takes so long to download even short clips with my dial-up that I'll probably have to upgrade to DSL or cable. (Dag-nab-it!)

I heard this on a collection of Dr. Demento novelty tunes. Is this the Particle Man you referred to or something else? I haven't paid much attention to popular music since 1979 (When I started working for a living). Hey! I don't call myself grumpyoldwhiteguy for nothing. Thanks for posting it however. I'd never have found it on my own.

#9 - Posted by: grumpyoldwhiteguy on March 31, 2008 07:14 PM

grumpyoldwhiteguy - 1979? Why you're just a kid! Now get with the program and get that super turbo whack-em-up triple power-boost cable internet thingy from your local state-sanctioned monopoly. Do it right now and hang up the phone. And start stylin'.

#10 - Posted by: Jimmy on March 31, 2008 07:35 PM

And Obama's economic plan for the middle class?

MINIMUM WAAAAAAGEEEE!!!!!! YE-HAHHH!!!!!!

#11 - Posted by: ExurbanKevin on March 31, 2008 09:25 PM

Dude, if you are going to run so many damn quotes GIVE THE READER ENOUGH TIME TO READ THEM!

#12 - Posted by: KB on March 31, 2008 09:39 PM

Racism is the new racism. Racism is so 90's, hip folks refer to it now as racism.

Get it, you racist racists?

#13 - Posted by: Appleseed on March 31, 2008 09:40 PM

KB, try the pause button :^)

I'd have used a different quote for the Farrakhan clips; to whit, Obama was an attendee at the Million Man March.

Mrs Obama was conspicuously absent... and, since she profitted mightily from being Mrs Junior Senator from Illinois, "serving" in a diversity-management position, that very much makes her fair game. I will go further: the Swift Boat movement for this cycle ought to represent the victims of HR / Diversity kangaroo-courts, from Steyn and Levant on down.

If it looks like a duck,
quacks like a duck,
smells like a duck,
poops like a duck, dude, it's a dang duck.

Now substitute racist for duck and you've got Obama and his CABAL

#15 - Posted by: seanmahair on March 31, 2008 10:04 PM

"Pooping racists" would be a racist term. Please refrain from its use.

#16 - Posted by: Islay on March 31, 2008 10:08 PM

As much as I enjoy TMBG stuff, it pains me to point out here that they contributed to a fundraising project for moveon.org during the 2004 election:

Brian: all the more reason to use their crap against them. Can't stop the signal!

#18 - Posted by: David Ross on March 31, 2008 10:29 PM

Yeah, why didn't think of that? Hah! McCain must be Triangle Man.

#19 - Posted by: John Lynch on March 31, 2008 11:06 PM

Reminds me of these lines from Steely Dan's The Jack of Speed:

Sheena's party - there's a case in point
That right-wing hooey sure stunk up the joint. . .

Of course, I always change it to "left-wing hooey" when I sing along. If speed makes you conservative, I'd like to see some proof. Libertarian, maybe, but not conservative.

#20 - Posted by: AST on March 31, 2008 11:11 PM

As a conservative, I'm against allowing TMBG to marry.

#21 - Posted by: Scooter on April 1, 2008 07:09 AM

Everyone's a little bit racist - sometimes.

Doesn't mean we go around committing - hate criiiiiiimmmes.

Look around and you will find: no one's really color blind.

Maybe it's a fact we all should faaaaaace.

#22 - Posted by: Princeton on April 1, 2008 09:33 AM

Jimmy- Maybe, but GoodnaturedNot-so-oldCaucasianMale just doesn't have the same ring to it. Can't upgrade att, just signed papers on a new motorcycle. Also stocking my bunker for the tribulation to come. Here's some working titles for great unwritten songs:
"We all have to go sometime, and when I go I'm taking you with me!"*
"You can have my gun when I place it in your cold, dead hand!"*
"Caution! Quiet, angry loner onboard"
*(not 'you' personally, Jimmy, that's a general, editorial sort of 'you'.)
