I think it would be funny, but then I have no respect for George Carlin, even if he is dead. Actually, George Calin would probably think it was funny. #1 - Posted by: Ernie Loco on June 24, 2008 09:35 AMI'm sure he would. Lileks had a bit on the Bleat today about how he thinks Carlin would be all "Why can't you speak ill of the dead? They're gone, no feelings to hurt now" -- I have to agree with him. And while I don't like the severe leftward drift he took at the end of his life, a lot of his early stuff really was great. #2 - Posted by: James on June 24, 2008 09:45 AMHeh... how 'bout: The 7 Things You Absolutely Gotta Parody as Liberal Shtbag: * The death of a Republican President * Teh Israelis * racist white males (white males in general: they're all racist & females of this category don't really count- white beeeyotches are merely cattle. Allahu Akbar!) * Morals, no matter how tentative * Those bitter morons who cling to their guns & religious convictions... y'know, the same ones who ought to take a page from al Qaeda & teh Taliban * Our all-volunteer military * Judeo-Christian beliefs #3 - Posted by: AlanABQ on June 24, 2008 09:52 AMHow about "One whiny socialist in hollyweird down; a gazillion to go." ? But then the libtards will start wailing and teeth gnashing about mean spirited conservatives, so I guess you shouldn't. #4 - Posted by: on June 24, 2008 10:16 AMGo for it. #5 - Posted by: MarkoMancuso on June 24, 2008 11:12 AMI say do it. No matter what the libs say you can't be meaner or more bitter than Carlin was at the end of his life (at least on stage). I've never seen anyone go from hiliariously funny to cranky, only partially funny rants in such spectacular fashion. Well, maybe Whoopi, but she was never hilariously funny to begin with, so her slide wasn't as dramatic. #6 - Posted by: sixpckr on June 24, 2008 11:24 AMThe seven things you cannot say at his funeral are pretty much everything that you typically DO say at a funeral: 1. "He's in a better place." (In fact, destined for a six foot hole in the ground is generally not a better place to be.) 2. "We're really going to miss him." (In fact, in about a month most people are going to forget that he was even around, the History channel notwithstanding.) 3. "He looks so natural [there in the coffin]." (In fact, his natural state is snarling and angry. I doubt that the mortician will leave his face in that state for the funeral.) 4. "He was too young." (In fact, he was a hey-uv-a lot better when he was young. His later work had a real aire of desperation about it, as though he was frantically trying to stay relevant. He should have quitely faded years ago at his peak.) 5. "I was shocked to hear of his demise." (In fact, I doubt that anyone was.) 6. "I just had to see him one last time." (In fact, you don't even know where his last gig was.) 7. "The world was a better place because of him." (In fact, he is most remembered for having lowered the common standards.) However, you can say "S..! F..! P..! C..! C..! M..! T..!" at his funeral, and they probably will. [Sigh] #7 - Posted by: ss396 on June 24, 2008 12:42 PM5. "I was shocked to hear of his demise." (In fact, I doubt that anyone was.) I must admit to being mildly shocked, I thought he had died a few years ago. #8 - Posted by: Brian The Adequate on June 24, 2008 01:05 PMI don't think he would mind. I think we should leave the politics out of it. The guy was funny. I really don't care what his politics were. He talked about things as he saw them and he was damn funny. #9 - Posted by: asheman on June 24, 2008 01:40 PMI disagree, asheman. He was just into rants by the end. He once did a bit on environmentalism, and I totally agreed with it. But I never once laughed. Also, his abortion act was ATROCIOUS - totally unfair and coarse. I'm only sad Carlin is dead because I am supposed to be. #10 - Posted by: Damian G. on June 24, 2008 02:04 PMI would be ashamed if you didn't. i think that he would be upset if his death wasn't made a mockery of, at least a little. #11 - Posted by: Nate on June 24, 2008 02:05 PMI agree Damian and Sixpckr. I had no idea he turned into such an angry nut-job. I heard 5 minutes of his abortion "skit" and wanted to hurl. #12 - Posted by: Sulamie on June 24, 2008 04:14 PMGranted I may be a bit older than some here, but I have fond memories of George. I think the vast majority of his work was entertaining, even if I didnt agree with it. So for those that want to villify him, LIGHTEN UP. And yes I think he would get a blast regarding any parody of his funeral or any other aspect of his behavior. #13 - Posted by: TerribleTroy on June 24, 2008 11:27 PMTroy I don't wish to villify him (okay..so angry nut-job was a bit harsh!) I just was really shocked to see some recent stuff is all. #14 - Posted by: Sulamie on June 25, 2008 04:17 AMPost a comment
