Thoughts on Where Politics Is Today
Posted by Frank J. at 11:05 AM | View blog reactions | Comments (36)

So, are any of you secretly rooting for Obama? The way I see it, if McCain wins, conservative are going to be spending at least the next four years having to defend him when we don't even really care for him (and he hates us), and we'll be no closer to getting more conservatives in office than we are now. With Obama, at least we'll have a fight on our hands, and I miss a good fight.

Also, it's real hard to do an argument for Republicans these days other than the tiresome "sucks less" one. Also, with all the years of Democrat whining, you kinda just want to go, "Fine! Here's the presidency, you annoying little bitches! Let's see you try and do something!" You can't really completely screw up this country in four years, anyway.

Now, just because we have some nitwit Democrats in office doesn't mean some good conservative candidates will emerge, but it does guarantee we get to go on the offensive again. I don't even think blogs existed last time a Democrat with a president; it will be a whole new blogosphere! We can be like Daily Kos -- i.e., a bunch of rats stuffed in a cage who savagely bite each other each time the cage gets disturbed. Well, maybe not Kos crazy -- even with Nuke the Moon and irrational monkey fear we're about a hundred times more acceptable to the general voting public -- but we could stand to be a little crazier. Remember when we used to think Bill Clinton had a bunch of people killed?

Just some thoughts to put out there. Sitting on the sidelines this election with nothing to cheer about is getting a bit tiresome. Maybe we could start a new party: Republicans Classic. And no more of this open tent crap; I want a nice closed tent. Not just anyone should be able to register as a Republican Classic; you have to prove your worth. In fact, I want this closed tent to also be hidden, so you have to know the right people, and if they trust you, then they'll tell you where the tent is. And when you get the tent, there are like guards in front of it who will knock you to the ground and kick you shouting, "What are you doing at this tent? Explain yourself!"

Now that's a party tough enough for America.

No, but then I'm not a member of Hamas or Al Qaeda.

Oh, wait. You said "secretly", not openly.

Well, that's a secret....

"You can't really completely screw up this country in four years, anyway"

Clearly, you've never heard the names "David Souter" or "Sandra Day O'Connor" before.

#2 - Posted by: James on July 14, 2008 11:46 AM

We should bring back Teddy Roosevelt's Bull Moose party.

#3 - Posted by: on July 14, 2008 11:56 AM

Root for Obama only if we have a staunchly conservative Congress... and then only grudgingly.

#4 - Posted by: Tim on July 14, 2008 12:01 PM

I'm afraid what Obama will do with SCOTUS.....it would screw it up for generations to come!

#5 - Posted by: PammyV on July 14, 2008 12:08 PM

Oh and I want to be in the tent!

I homeschool my kids. Homeschooling ensures there will be a few elite in the next generation that have not been brainwashed and will save the USA!

#6 - Posted by: PammyV on July 14, 2008 12:12 PM

Who will lead this new, yet classic, party?

#7 - Posted by: branden on July 14, 2008 12:31 PM

Frank- You can't be serious.

A lefty democrat president with a solid lefty democrat majority in the house and a majority (possibly a filibuster proof majority) of lefty democrats in the Senate, and you DON'T think they can screw things up in four years? Heck, they could even FUBAR the economy in the two years before the next election. Underestimate a socialist's ability to rapidly screw up a country at your great peril my friend.

And that does not even consider the missed opportunity that Justices Ginsburg and Stevens could be replaced by people who actually understand the constitution, heck replacing them with two random people who have at somepoint READ the constitution would be in improvement. Under the Obamination they would be replaced with clones half their age to ensure the screw job goes on for the foreseable future.

If the equation was Presidnet Obama = conservative senate majority OR even President Obama = 41 conservative senators with a spine, I would vote for him without a regret or second thought. I have children though and for their future I will have to vote for.........

Ok, truth is I live in Indiana, so if there is even CHANCE that my vote would matter it is gonna be president Obama anyway. I am going to write in Chthulu cause I am tired of voting for the LESSER of the evils.

#8 - Posted by: Brian The Adequate on July 14, 2008 12:59 PM

If we can just get replace a couple of Supremes with someone with basic reading comprehension, it'll be worth 4 years of being told by McCain to bend over.

#9 - Posted by: Cptnmoroni on July 14, 2008 02:02 PM

To clarify my previous post - McCain will probably put a couple Sandra O'Connors in but with the Obama, in 4 years, the country will be completely unrecognizable. At least with McCain, there's the smallest chance we can get something.

#10 - Posted by: cptnmoroni on July 14, 2008 02:06 PM

I don't see how anyone can read this and "not even really care for him".

McCain is probably the only politician in at least 100 years who isn't flat out scum.

#11 - Posted by: Scooter on July 14, 2008 02:42 PM

Nope, not rooting for Barry even though the alternative is frankly embarrassing. Said it before, will say it again:

Whoever wins... we lose.

#12 - Posted by: Peregrine John on July 14, 2008 02:44 PM

New Party Platforms:

1)Punching stupid people in the mouth is protected by the first amendment.

2)The environment will never get in the way of us taking precious oil.

3)All U.S Citizens are encouraged to carry at least one concealed weapon and 40 rounds of ammo.

4)All states have final say if laws apply in their borders.

5)Move toward making the income tax nonexistent.

Frank, If your party does at least that, count me in.

#13 - Posted by: BigRichardSmall on July 14, 2008 02:46 PM

Nobody on the right to vote for.
Nobody on the left to vote for.
Nobody on the fringe to vote for.

Open up that tent, Frank, we all need in to plan the revolt!

Guns okay. No kool-aid, though.

#14 - Posted by: ILoveMyFreedoms on July 14, 2008 02:49 PM

No matter who wins, we're so screwed.....

#15 - Posted by: Bruce in KC on July 14, 2008 03:17 PM

Sorry Scooter,

It’s not McCain’s war record or his stance on the military we have a problem with. It his record on everything else that we take issue with. I.E Global whining, Illegal immigration, Constantly complaining he would have been president by now if it wasn’t for us meddling kids.

#16 - Posted by: BigRichardSmall on July 14, 2008 03:20 PM

Guys, it's not too late to vote for Ron Pau---

Jeez, that was a close one.

Anyway, I can't bring myself to vote for McCain, but I won't argue with anyone who says they will. I guess a back stabbing RINO is better than a Marxist.

#17 - Posted by: MarkoMancuso on July 14, 2008 03:30 PM

The right was at it's finest under Bubba. Things always seem to need to get worse before they get better, and we won't get much worse than Obama.

#18 - Posted by: soupcan on July 14, 2008 03:45 PM

Who will lead this new, yet classic, party?

#7 - Posted by: branden on July 14, 2008 12:31 PM

-------------

Why, The Fred!, of course. With #13's platform.

How many write-ins would it take to make Fred our king?

#19 - Posted by: NunyaB on July 14, 2008 06:42 PM

I really believe that who wins the presidency doesn't matter in the vast scheme of things. What really needs to happen it we, the American people need to throw the idiots who are in Congress out(out the door, out a window, out of the bus, train, plane, out of the planet). The Cynthia McKinney's, the Harry Reid's, the Chucky Schumer's, the Nancy Pelosi's as well as the do nothing members of our own party who have let us down so dreadfully.

They all need to go. Maybe if we start with a whole new group, insure they know that WE are their bosses, tell them to work together for the good of the country instead of the good of their personal bank account, lobbiest or hedge fund or we'll throw their butts out next cycle maybe something good might actually happen.

#20 - Posted by: seanmahair on July 14, 2008 09:17 PM
"...start with a whole new group, insure they know that WE are their bosses..."

Heck no! It would be a terrible idea to make the WEtards bosses of anybody, let alone congress.

(Sorry, I've been reading all the letters of the WEsistance lately and couldn't resist the pun)

#8 - Posted by: Brian The Adequate on July 14, 2008 12:59 PM

Well said Brian, though I was more inclined to write in Fred! myself; might as well let the GOP know who I really wanted in the first place.

You can't really completely screw up this country in four years, anyway.

WTF!?!?! did you forget Carter, you noob??? hostages taken and terrorist screwing around with us because we had the world's biggest PU$$Y for president. Screw that notion, Frank. You been sipping the koolaid on the sly or something?

#22 - Posted by: on July 14, 2008 11:50 PM

Wait until after the conventions.
Every day that passes gives berrie and his loyal cluster another chance to show the nation who they really are.
Hillary and the friends of Wilbur Whatley may still make a scene in Denver.
Also McCain could have a stroke tomorrow and the Republican convention becomes a Battle Royale with a good chance that a real conservative emerges from the dust, smoke, blood, hair and eyeballs with an axe in one hand and a mandate from the people in the other!
Oh God! Let me dream!

#23 - Posted by: 4 of 7 on July 15, 2008 12:23 AM

"an axe in one hand and a mandate from the people in the other"...
Why does THAT give me fuzzies?

#24 - Posted by: Cyrus on July 15, 2008 12:59 AM

I think Obama would utterly destroy this country. Whoever he nominated to the Supreme Court would make Ginsburg look conservative. We'd have no protection against terrorists. And if that ever happens, I want it to at least be when I no longer live part of the year in a state without conceal & carry and the rest of it at a school that won't let you carry a weapon! Besides, I'm still holding out the hope that McCain will come to his senses and make Fred Thompson his attorney general.

P.S. I think someone's been stealing your Nuke the Moon idea. Shame on them!

#25 - Posted by: Oromin on July 15, 2008 01:23 AM

I can handle a guy I disagree with on some things for a chance to vote for an actual proven decent human being. This is the first chance that has come up in my lifetime and I'm excited about it.

#26 - Posted by: Scooter on July 15, 2008 06:39 AM

I consider liberalism to be the real enemy of America (and mankind) therefore I will not have a hand in putting a liberal on a white horse to lead me into warfare. I'd rather the enemy win straight out. Any man who detests social conservatives is a danger to the nation. I will not support such a disloyal(short term for maverick)anti-conservative, arrogant man who panders to the enemy and stabs his own in the back. Why encourage the likes of him at the highest levels of leadership? If he wins,it will guarantee that conservativism will be relegated to the four year political crumb toss.

#27 - Posted by: Don L on July 15, 2008 07:22 AM

"You can't really completely screw up this country in four years, anyway."

I think you underestimate the incompetence of the Democratic party. A Democratic Congress and Presidency is the perfect storm to usher in the United Socialist States of America.

#28 - Posted by: Warpath on July 15, 2008 10:14 AM

Crap. I'm a danger to the nation.

#29 - Posted by: Scooter on July 15, 2008 02:20 PM

I totally see your point, #27, I think the R's deserve to lose, in order to clean house and develop a backbone against Liberalism.

BUT...

If the R's do lose, that is no guarantee that they will either grow a spine or clean house.

I too hate that McCain is our only option against the Obamessiah.

And as nutty as the Libs are now, count on them being 10x worse in charge of both the Congress and the POTUS...and eventually the SCOTUS. Talk about your living nightmares.

Whether you vote D or R, you won't be voting for a social conservative either way. Not voting at all, or throwing away your vote with a preferable but unelectable 3rd party, is handing the White House keys to BHO the elitist/racist/socialist.

And if BHO is in charge, in 4 years, America as the Founders found it and that we were raised on will be a faint and distant memory.

I still have no idea who I will vote for; I guess it will depend on McCain's choice for Veep. Right now, my choice is Anyone But BHO.

(sorry everyone for the long post; carry on)

#30 - Posted by: NunyaB on July 15, 2008 02:24 PM

#23, you tease. ;-)

What are you trying to do, get our Hopes up?

#31 - Posted by: on July 15, 2008 02:27 PM

It makes little difference which way the November election goes. Both big party candidates are horrible. I'm casting my vote for dusting off the Declaration of Independence, revising the grievances portion to fit the circumstances of today, and kicking off the 21st century American Revolution. We need to avoid central government and preserve sovereignty of the people and individual states.
I will not vote for BO or Mac. The Dumbocrats say we can't drill our way out of our oil problems... I say we can't vote our way out of our government problems. We see what votes have given us this time around. How the hell did Mac rise from the primary grave to become the R nominee? I'm not saying the lections are fixed, but that recovery just defies the laws of thermodynamics.
BTW NunyaB - The unelectable third party is a lie perpetuated by the D's and R's to protect their monopoly, since they are just 2 sides to the same coin.

#32 - Posted by: echo5a on July 15, 2008 05:24 PM

uh, in #32 that should either be elections, or 'lections. Take yer pick.

#33 - Posted by: echo5a on July 15, 2008 05:26 PM

24 - I got that image from the short story, "By This Axe I Rule", by Robert E. Howard.
31 - "There is always hope!" - Aragorn (Lord of the Rings, The Two Towers).
32 - Let's vote here on Which 3rd Party candidate we'll all support. If we fly off after different banners our votes Will be wasted, but if we all voted for just One 3rd party, who knows what we might achieve?

#34 - Posted by: 4 of 7 on July 15, 2008 08:50 PM

4 of 7
I agree a focused approach to routing the big parties with a 3rd party vote would be a good move. Of course, I would go for a Libertarian as a first choice. As an alternative to the big two, though, I would be inclined to throw my support toward the first leafy vegetable to throw it's proverbial hat into the ring. We would be far better off with a President Turnip Greens than a President McCain or Obama.
Since the LP nominated Bob Barr, That will likely be who I vote for. I know that Ron Paul is anathema to many if not most IMAOers, but he is far and away a better candidate than either of the other two.
I'll just put these suggestions out there as my two cents worth until Obama manages to take all my change.
Semper Fidelis

#35 - Posted by: echo5a on July 15, 2008 10:09 PM

I like the Constitution Parties' platform. Their presidential candidate, Chuck Baldwin seems sane enough. I just hope he's not related to Alex Baldwin - I'd hate to see him showing up at all the White House Christmas parties, getting drunk and cussing at his kids! Their website compares conservative Republicans to battered wifes who keep returning for more abuse. It's like they can read my mind!
