Leave Andrew Sullivan Alone
Posted by Frank J. at 01:55 PM | View blog reactions | Comments (28)

I see a lot of right-wing blogs constantly piling on Andrew Sullivan lately, but the guy is suffering from AIDS-related dementia and it really makes us look pretty scummy to be hammering him like this.

UPDATE:

Is this too much? I was hesitant on this post as I disagree with South Park about whether AIDS can be funny now, but the point more is that Andrew Sullivan is so out there now that we should all just ignore him. His blog was one of the first blogs I ever read and I used to really respect his punditry, and now he's beyond a joke and seems to have lost any moral or intellectual basis to his reasoning. He's cited only by Kos Kids and even they question his stability.

It's much more sad than funny.

Hey, I'm just thankful Sully is finally interested in a vagina for once.

Well, way to take the high road.

#2 - Posted by: MB on September 1, 2008 02:04 PM

Who is Andrew Sullivan? Does he have a blog?

#3 - Posted by: Two Dogs on September 1, 2008 02:23 PM

I really want to see the mascara-running video screaming for us to leaver her....er...him...alone. ;-)

PIMF

Leaver=leave

It's not exactly classy and I'd rather just skip this, but if you've been following Andrew Sullivan lately, you wouldn't have too much regard for him and the high road. It's a path he left a while ago.

#6 - Posted by: WAL on September 1, 2008 03:21 PM

I love Barack Obama!

#7 - Posted by: ObamaFan on September 1, 2008 08:03 PM

Yes - it is too much. But only because you imply that other AIDS sufferers are as bat-sh*t crazy as Sullivan.

#8 - Posted by: DamnCat on September 1, 2008 08:30 PM

I have always found it fascinating that people of Sullivans ilk claim the reason they aren't happy is because the world doesn't approve of their life style choices.

Today the world doesn't care about his sexuality and still he's not happy.

"Wickedness never was happiness". Make a new wish when you blow out the candles.

#9 - Posted by: seanmahair on September 1, 2008 08:34 PM

seanmahair, it does make you wonder why they chose the word "gay" to describe their sexual choice. Most of them don't really seem that happy. Perhaps a word like "bitter" or "petty" would have been a more appropriate term for homosexuals.

#10 - Posted by: Son of Bob on September 1, 2008 11:08 PM

Son of Bob, I was thinking "cranky" or "peevish" or "testy" but petty works too. Yes' gay is not a description that fits the group. Of course I've never felt the compulsion to announce that I am heterosexual to all and sundry. My six children would be a clue I guess but I've always figured my sexual orientation is no one else's business but mine. Of course I don't have to try to convince myself that what I'm doing is morally correct either so.....

#11 - Posted by: seanmahair on September 1, 2008 11:15 PM

"Gay" is a propaganda word, chosen to convince the rest of us that they are just happy little leprechauns.
I pity Sullivan, but I don't think we can just let his hatemongering go, because there are many people who still do take him seriously.

#12 - Posted by: Trish on September 1, 2008 11:52 PM

Fact: Sarah Palin hates gay people.

[Just because she hates you doesn't mean she hates all gay people. Just the ones who really suck. -Ed.]

#13 - Posted by: Miles on September 1, 2008 11:53 PM

Gay people are ok...unless they become a majority...or a noticable minority.

#14 - Posted by: Freedom Fries on September 2, 2008 12:37 AM

Just because she hates you doesn't mean she hates all gay people. Just the ones who really suck.

No loser - she hates gay people and gay rights. She doesn't even want gay people to be able to visit their sick loved ones in the hospital. Gay people have the right to marry and get money from the government for their adopted babies just like straight people do for their babies. Everyone should be for equal rights and equal taxation regardless of whether you like guy-girl love or guy-guy love (oh joy!!!) If you aren't for gay rights then you basically are a mean bigot loser who want sto repress gay people and take money away from them.

The other option would just be to take all the marriage and child benefits out of the tax code - that would at least be fair.

If you aren't for one of these optiosn then you want a tax code that is biased toward straight married people and YOU ARE A BIGOT!

Obama is a hero and our next president!!

#16 - Posted by: Miles on September 2, 2008 12:39 AM

Asshole is a fitting word for several of the folks above who decided it was acceptable to bash gays as bitter and unhappy. So nice! Maybe we should all sit at the back of the bus? Would that make YOU happy? You all do seem to be so supportive of Palin who cares nothing for our rights.

#17 - Posted by: Lawrence on September 2, 2008 12:49 AM

Is that really the best gay attack you can think of? Gay people are peevish and unhappy? You know who really is unhappy - people like WAL, tom, seanmahair, sonofbob, etc who secretly think Barack Obama is a total hottie (which he so is!) but are afraid to admit it. Those repressed urges make you guys so grumpy.

Dear Sirs,

Andrew Sullivan was one of my favorite bloggers when he first made his appearance on the web. His posts were insightful and succinct. Unfortunately he seemed to go off track a couple of years ago. I am saddened. It is much like the unfortunate death of Michael Kelly in Iraq in 2003. I don't read him anymore, but I do feel an affection for him for his contributions to the discussion. He is in a different place now. Please find it in your hearts recognize his works and wish him well.

Regards,
Roy

Nah, #15, #18, gays are fine. It's faggots we don't like.

#20 - Posted by: Jimmy on September 2, 2008 01:52 AM
then you want a tax code that is biased toward straight married people

There's a reason the tax code is "biased towards" straight married people. The same reason the tax code is "biased towards" people who make charitable donations or people who are attending college or install solar panels on their house, etc, etc, etc.

The reason the tax code is "biased" towards these groups, is they are participating in behavior the government wants to encourage. Studies and common sense and (in the case of heterosexual marriage) time immemorial have shown that certain behaviors are beneficial to the society as a whole. The government wants to encourage these behaviors, hence the tax breaks.

Apparently the government (and more importantly, the American public in general) has not found any significant social benefit from homosexual "marriage", hence, no special status.

Like you Frank my first blog experience was Sullivan's back in 99/2000. It's really sad to see what's happened to him.

#22 - Posted by: Ryan on September 2, 2008 03:07 AM

Way too much.

#23 - Posted by: Fakename on September 2, 2008 07:29 AM

#24 - Posted by: Barack Obama on September 2, 2008 12:11 PM

1. AIDS is totally funny.

2. His brain is suffering from testosterone poisoning. He takes the stuff for AIDS-related reasons -- don't ask me the details because I'm not an expert.

#25 - Posted by: JPG on September 2, 2008 04:22 PM

if he publishes his opinions, he is open to comment - both supportive and condemning. too bad about his aids - i had no idea - it is irrelevant to me reading his words and publishing a response.

just like reagan getting shot was irrelevant to the libs. just like a pub with a sex problem is a pervert, and a dem with a sex problem needs counseling and encouragement to overcome his challenge - according to the libs.

there be a kitchen. you chose to cook in it, don't bitch about the heat.

#26 - Posted by: clyde_m on September 2, 2008 05:36 PM

You know I simply asked a question. I don't hate gay people, I don't care enough about them or their life style choices to hate them. I simply asked why they have to shove their sexuality down everyone's throat (no pun bad or other wise intended).

I DON'T CARE WHAT YOUR BEDROOM HABITS ARE. I care that people like Sullivan take their unhappiness and misery out on others who really don't deserve it.

For example when someone simply asks a question. Go figure.

#27 - Posted by: seanmahair on September 2, 2008 08:51 PM

Here's a deal.
Give us back the word 'gay' and we'll give you exclusive rights to the word 'fabulous'.

They went to the Fabulous pride parade. It was Fabulous!

They enjoy Fabulous sex in the privacy of their own Fabulously decorated home!

They danced to 'YMCA', by the Village People, a Fabulous song by a Fabulous group.

2 Fabulouses were beaten in an alley by a crowd of drunken red-necks last night.

See, it works in any situation!
Do we have a deal?
