If McCain is put out of action for any reason, I'd prefer somebody like Guiliani standing behind him, ready to pick up the traces and drive - particularly with Putin on a rampage. This is why I think Palin was a poor choice. #1 - Posted by: azcon on September 2, 2008 09:52 AMLets look at what America has chosen to put up as its potential nos 1 and 2. Obama - a radical left-wing socialist who has never had a real job, despises the military and will cut it drastically, who will raise taxes on everybody and business to maintain his socialist ideological principles despite the effects on America. Biden - a fat mouthed old, vain, plagiarizing DC insider who garnered a total of 9,000 votes in his primary POTUS run. WTF wants him for anything?? MCCain - He's an American hero and deserves commensurate praise and honor. But the Presidency of the US? He wants to open the US to immigration for Latino votes and has originated an unconstitutional McCain Feingold law violating free speech. Palin. Attractive, tough, smart. So am I (in a male way). But POTUS and president is the office that has to be considered when voting? With the likes of a John Bolton and/or Bobby Jindal out there ( I'll let the Dems/commies fill in their names) are these the best we have? #2 - Posted by: Jerry on September 2, 2008 09:57 AMI have to agree on this. Neither one of these candidates is remotely capable of being president. Meanwhile activists on both sides of the aisle gleefully gloat about their inexperienced candidate. Leftist morons yap about the empty-suited Obama and conservatives bleat inanely about pathetic Palin. Obama isn't ready and Palin already is like a non-stop reality-tv show. Both parties have really let us down this year. Either way it goes this election will result in extreme disaster for our country. It's like the parties don't even take the future of our country seriously anymore. I'm pissed. F*** this s**t. Is there any independent party? Bob Barr anyone? #3 - Posted by: SteveLP on September 2, 2008 10:00 AMNo, Frank. I don't concede "the point" about Palin. She is perfectly qualified to hold any elected office. Obama isn't qualified to shine my shoes. #4 - Posted by: Jimmy on September 2, 2008 10:03 AMPalin is much tougher than anyone else out there - male or female. She was tough enough to fight her own corrupt Republican party in Alaska and win. She doesn't just talk about corruption, she destroys it. This is finally our big chance to deal with the corruption on both sides of the aisle. The fact that she comes from as far away from DC as possible is also big plus. She isn't one of THEM. Most women are unfit for the office - but sometimes one comes along that earns it - like Thatcher and like Palin. #5 - Posted by: reality intrudes on September 2, 2008 10:06 AMHonestly, I get a gut feeling on the question of Palin being fit for the POTUS position, that the fact that she is a woman is figuring in as a negative. As for what we do know on her actions, and accomplishments, I would say that yes...she is fit to be President and with that being said, she is an unknown and we need to see how she handles herself the next few weeks to make a more rational decision, which is why this VP pick of Mcains does show risk. Surley we cannot ignore the comparisons between Palin and Obama in both experiance and JUDGEMENT that both have shown in determining if either is fit for the peospect of bieng POTUS. The unfortunate and scarey thing is, we will get a proper vetting of Palin the next few weeks so we can further make our assesment, with Obama, he is being shielded by the media so he will remain the man of mystery should he win and become POTUS. I am a little tired with the experience thing in general. What is important in the ideals the person holds to and wether or not they walk the talk. And no, Obama is not qualified to be VP. #7 - Posted by: on September 2, 2008 10:39 AMThe whole experience question is a red herring. The only way to get experience as President/VP is to be one. As to not knowing enough about Obama because of media shielding...what I do know is scary enough, my opinion of him can't be lowered anymore. But yes Palin is qualified. Let's see what she can do. #8 - Posted by: Kansasfarmboy on September 2, 2008 10:54 AMThe people above saying Palin is qualified are the same people who argued before Palin that Obama was inexperienced. And the liberals arguing Palin is inexperienced are the same liberals that were arguing that Obama had enough experience. Everyone conservatives and liberals alike are full of it. They just want a far-lefty or far-righty and they know their person has no business being vp or pres of the United States of America but they don't care. It's really pathetic! I'm ashamed of the people above saying Palin is qualified. Give me a f***ing break! #9 - Posted by: SteveLP on September 2, 2008 11:03 AMIf by "experience" you mean how long have they been in the Washington machine, I don't want that type of experience. That type of experience brought us McCain and Biden...two Washington elitists, completely out of touch with the real world, and completely enamored with themselves. I want real work experience, running a company and things outside of Washington. Palin has done that. Meanwhile, at age 47, Obama's still never held a real job in his life. I'd rather have Palin at the top of the ticket. #10 - Posted by: Son of Bob on September 2, 2008 11:30 AMSon of Bob that was a heap of dung you just posted. Admit it - you like Palin because she is a far-righty and dislike Obama because he is a far-lefty. You are just grasping at straws to try and find a reason why she is qualified but she isn't. How pathetic!! None of these young losers are qualified for the job! Everyone knows there are plenty of people far more qualified than Palin that McCain should have picked. McCain has turned the GOP and our country into a reality-tv show. #11 - Posted by: SteveLP on September 2, 2008 11:52 AMYou tell those racist crackers, SteveLP! It's supporters like you who bring a smile to My face. Ow! Damn it, SteveLP! I told you - no teeth! #12 - Posted by: Barack Obama on September 2, 2008 12:08 PMGovernors do alot more work than community organizers and senators. #13 - Posted by: what she said on September 2, 2008 12:28 PMSay what you will, Obama will be a disaster for America. SCOTUS - he'll get to set an extreme left majority for the next generation. Taxes - are you kidding me? He admits it himself. Fairness Doctrine - the end of Conservative radio! Goebbels could not have conceived it better. Information will be theirs. How will their evil socialism ever be defeated??? What it boils down to is I'd rather have a POTUS who has 20 years experience cleaning up both sides of the aisle, and a hot babe VPOTUS with a gun pointed towards all enemies foreign and domestic. When it comes to executive experience, Palin beats all three of them hands down. BarryO has ZERO experience in anything except campaigning and race-baiting. Hopefully Dr. King's dream will be realized come November: character before color. #15 - Posted by: on September 2, 2008 03:03 PMForget the experience issue - I think Sarah is as qualified as anyone. Forget all the nasty attacks on Sarah from the left - these jerks have no right to criticize the woman for being a working mom, because this is what all of them stand for. However, it is fair to criticize Sarah from the right: SteveLP, I am voting for Chuck Baldwin just to show my disappointment in the current choices. I think Sarah was the best choice McPain could have made, but it is not enough for me to believe that GOP is on the right track in general. There are no real conservatives any more. #16 - Posted by: mykidsmommy on September 2, 2008 08:31 PM#11 - Posted by: SteveLP on September 2, 2008 11:52 AM A bunch of Mobies showed up on rightwing websites over the last few days. Anybody seen this guy before then? Cuz I haven't. #17 - Posted by: on September 2, 2008 08:56 PM#11 - SteveLP, (1) You speak for everyone? I think Bush should run for a third term. Let's face it, we need him. But it's not like anyone's gonna vote for him; everyone's been brainwashed by the Liberals and the America-haters. #19 - Posted by: Freedom Fries on September 3, 2008 12:49 AMSteveLP, Sarah Palin stands tough on conservative issues. Thank friggin' God, because the Republican men won't. Im a guy, and I'm embarrassed by the Republican wusses. Meanwhile, Laura Ingraham, Ann Coulter, Michelle Malkin and Sarah Palin stand up for what they/we believe in and don't cower like little girls apologizing for being right every 10 seconds. The only heap of dung is the nonsense that comes out of the mouths of idiots like you who actually believe the Daily Kos represents the viewpoints of actual Americans. #20 - Posted by: Son of Bob on September 3, 2008 01:00 AMOn the experience issue let us take some of our greatest presidents. First, George Washington. What were his qualifications to be President? War hero, gentlemen farmer, surveyor? Or Abraham Lincoln, lawyer who in 1846 ran for the House of Representatives and after one term he made an unsuccessful bid for the U.S. Senate but lost to Stephen Douglas. Or Ronald Reagan who was President of the Screen Actors Guild and then in 1966 Governor of California and served two terms. How exactly do you get experience at being President? It's sort of like being a parent. You learn as much about life before hand and then you learn on the job. Yes the learning curve is steep, that's why we try to keep out fanatics, morons and do nothings. It's also why we try not to elect those who haven't had a lot of life experience (age is not the issue, life is the issue) People who have no accomplishments to point to have no business in this job. Come back when you've a actually accomplished something, other than feathering your own nest. #21 - Posted by: seanmahair on September 3, 2008 08:15 AMI'm sick of lawyers running this country. Why can't normal people be in politics holding office. The Prez and Veep should be well-rounded, experienced, decisive and all that. But one essential characteristic I look for is that at some point in their life they've been humbled. McCain without doubt has. Even GWB has. Os/Obama certainly hasn't, and Biden's only humbling was his male pattern baldness. It seems to me Palin's going through some humbling moments right now and I'm sure she'll come through with flying colors. #22 - Posted by: Carruthers on September 3, 2008 12:52 PMPost a comment
