Pass the Desitin, my butt is chapped

The condescension coming from the left and/or the media (it's hard to tell which is which) about Sarah Palin simply reading a speech has me ready to go shoot a moose and eat it tartare in response. That was the first thing Mort Kondracke said last night after she had delivered her zing-filled, zesty speech: that of course, she didn't write it, but she did a great job reading it. At least one other pundit on the Fox roundtable touched on her not writing the speech, before Brit Hume finally asked if that were fair to point out that she didn't write her speech. After all, he pointed out, all politicians have speech writers, and all politicians read the speeches that someone else wrote. I mean, Duh. Do you think Barack wrote his rhetoric-filled speech full of fluff? Right. Get back to me when Barack makes up a sentence composed of five words or more, and he can't have used the words hope or change anywhere in the sentence. I won't hold my breath.

Mark Halperin gives her an A+ on last night's speech. Then he condescends. "She read the teleprompter like a champ, with fine, varied pacing and conversational projection." Read the teleprompter like a champ? Cram it, loser. You wouldn't say such things if she were an old Washington insider or a man from the Ivy Leagues. You'd talk about what an amazing speech she gave, and no one would speak of teleprompters and the great ability to read something someone else wrote.

SarahK - is there any gluten in moose tartar? :>)

I bet none of the losers who are damning her with faint praise could step up and do the job she did with the pressure she was under.

Those who can, do. Those who can't, criticize.

http://www.redstate.com/diaries/redstate/2008/sep/04/breaking-sarah-palin-winged-her-speech-bec/

She winged a good part of it apparently.

If it was Obama up there when the teleprompter broke you would have heard Uhh... Uhmmm... ;)

The Dems and the MSM (I know, redundant) decided they would paint Palin as an unqualified, gun toting, small town, trailer trash hick.

As it turns out they should have, instead, tried to set the bar too high for her. Then, any stumble and they could have said "Not so great, we expected her to be perfect after all that build-up". Or, if she made no mistakes (as actually happened) they could have said "Well, we said all along she'd be good - but her policies still suck"

When Palin slammed it out of the park last night she made her detractors look like fools. But it's too late now - they can't admit they were wrong without admitting (at least tacitly) that they treated her unfairly. And if they don't admit it they look like fools and liars.

Palin was perfect - not shrill or harsh, not playing the victim - the perfect balance of sweet, determined, and tough as hell. Unless he is a total blithering idiot, Joe Biden must be crapping his pants at the prospect of debating her.

Probably some type of defense mechanism kicking in.

The Dems wish they could get their Veep to stick with a teleprompter and script.

I feel exactly the same way! And you know darned well she had input on that speech. They all do...

And to be honest, it's very refreshing to see someone who IS that polished in presenting. It just goes to show what a great job she'll do representing our country....

Dimwads. That really is making my blood boil....

#5 - Posted by: Tammi on September 4, 2008 10:07 AM

Well the drive-bys must be running out of ammo because now they are going after her hair.

"I want a front row seat at that event!!!"
Wait a minute with all that crap running downhill I think I'll take a seat in the balcony!!!!
GO, SARAH, GO !!!!!

I gave her an A+ before I found out she wasn't using the teleprompter for the second half of it. She accepted the comparison of her resume with that of Obama's and said hers was better.

"Being a small-town mayor is like being a community organizer, but you have responsibilities."

"...take the Styrofoam columns back to the Hollywood backlot..."

It's also the first time I've heard someone point out that Obama's written two memoirs, but never any laws. ("Present!") I mean, I knew both of those things, never heard anyone contrast them.

Instead of Desitine, try this product only found in tractor stores: monkeybutt powder. My good friend told me about it, and gave me the website: www.antimonkeybutt.com Hope that helps. The next sixty-some days are gonna get ugly. Sorry, once a mom, always a mom.

#9 - Posted by: Joyce on September 4, 2008 11:19 AM

The funny part is that her teleprompter actually broke during the speech. Could you tell? No!

#10 - Posted by: 007 on September 4, 2008 11:26 AM

Get back to me when Barack makes up a sentence composed of five words or more, and he can't have used the words hope or change anywhere in the sentence.

His Infernal Majesty has accomplished this many times.

For example:

"Uhh....er....ummmmmm....er....uhhhhh."

"Ummmmm...errrrrrrrrrrrrr....uhhhhhhh...er....um."

Some may say that those are not words, but you would understand if you spoke the primary language of our 57th state.

I guess Obambi couldn't say something stupid fast enough after Palin brought it. Here's a morsel from a spokesman:
“The speech that Governor Palin gave was well delivered, but it was written by George Bush’s speechwriter and sounds exactly like the same divisive, partisan attacks we’ve heard from George Bush for the last eight years,”

First, that it came from an Obambi spokesman is about two steps lamer than their speechwriter complaint. I wonder if any of them will look up the term "irony" in the near future. Better yet, how about "hypocrite"?

Next, Obambi was on TV late last night blathering on about how the Republicans are behind & that where McCalin only has about 200 campaign workers, he has 2000+.
Now, if that isn't a tell-tale sign of how his administration is going to do things nationwide, then I don't know what is.

I'm confused... are discussions of "family" in or out? Obama and McCain both say that discussions of family are "off limits" but the current and maybe future republican VP candidate proudly trotted out the boy who impregnated her daughter and her entire family in front of a very political event. Her extended family -- mom, pop, sister (but NOT former brother-in-law) were led in front of the media to say nice things. Now... we are not allowed to comment on their veracity, honesty, sanity or anything else.. how does that make sense? Also, she goes for blood and throws punches below the belt but nobody can counter punch because she's a woman..?? This is a silly season.

#13 - Posted by: Ed on September 4, 2008 12:08 PM

Clearly, the woman doesn't need a teleprompter. I thought something was up 'cause she kept looking straight at the camera.

#14 - Posted by: Jimmy on September 4, 2008 12:10 PM

#13 - Her punches are not below the belt - they are straight in the jaw, and she will hold her own if you punch back.

#15 - Posted by: mykidsmommy on September 4, 2008 12:18 PM

It's the way of politics. When you have nothing, go for what's easy. What's easy is going back to traditional women roles. "How can she be a good mother while being VP?" Sorry the only actual real job of the VP is to cast a deciding vote in the senate if there is a tie and wait around for the actual president to die. I'm sure that'll be a lot easier than being a mayor or the governor of Alaska.

She's in the national spotlight. Apart of that is dealing with morons. If she can’t take the words from a bunch of left wing losers then why would we want her any way. It looks to me none of the crazy garbage has slowed her down in the least.

I have friends that have vocally said "With people like China, and the resurgence of Russia, do you want a woman like Palin across the table from Putin? He' probably make her cry."

Yeah women historically make lousy leaders and military commanders. Catharine the Great, Elizabeth II, Joan of Arc, Boudica, especially that waif Margret Thatcher how she curtailed to the Soviets. Let's not repeat that.

Funny how none of these concerns ever from what I read ever surfaced during the Clinton campaign. That’s probably because everyone knows Hillary's evil incarnate.

#16 - Posted by: BigRichardSmall on September 4, 2008 12:46 PM

I am happy 30 million voters watched the Palin speech last night. They will decide the President and VP, not the news media, political pundits and blogs.

It appears to me that McCain can follow Palins coattails right into the White House.

I look forward to the debates. The more people see Palin the more votes will be coming her way.

"I'm confused... are discussions of "family" in or out? Obama and McCain both say that discussions of family are "off limits" but the current and maybe future republican VP candidate proudly trotted out the boy who impregnated her daughter and her entire family in front of a very political event."
~Pretty standard practice. We as Americans generally prefer candidates with families to those without. This is the first time I've heard people suggest a candidate's family actually be vetted. I'm still not sure how that leap was made.

"Her extended family -- mom, pop, sister (but NOT former brother-in-law) were led in front of the media to say nice things. Now... we are not allowed to comment on their veracity, honesty, sanity or anything else.. how does that make sense?"
~Her former brother-in-law was probably absent because he's no longer a family member. There's a forehead slapper for you. Also, maybe she doesn't like people that taser 10-year olds. Do you? And no, we aren't allowed to question her family's veracity, sanity, etc. etc. because none of them are running for the office of Vice President. Stay on topic please.

"Also, she goes for blood and throws punches below the belt but nobody can counter punch because she's a woman..??"
~All her punches were spot on, right to the face. People are welcome to counter-punch (that's what politics are all about) but let's try to leave her daughter's pregnancy and her current hair style out of it. I mean, after all, if she's such a bad candidate it should be pretty easy to pick her apart politically without resorting to slanderous, personal attacks right? RIGHT?

"This is a silly season."
~Yep, and it began when the Dems had the "foresight" to nominate a junior senator with zero experience on all fronts, then have the nerve to complain that the Republicans nominated a VP candidate with no experience.

Desitin is not bad, but Diaprex is the gold standard in treating diaper rash and chafed skin. I say that as the parent of three fair haired redheads.

From the rez: Did Joe Biden write his speech? Some neo-Nazi skin told me JOE lifts his speeches from some Brit. Who is Brit?
