McCain's Speech

He's McCain; what else can you say. You may not like him, but it will be hard to meet anyone half the man he is.

Obama should take Palin's (?) advice, and ask McCain how to deal with people who live in boxes. Then he can help his bro...

Dude's got a story few can tell. Hats off.

"but it will be hard to meet anyone half the man he is."

I don't know - I think Obama is almost halfway to being half the man McCain is.

#4 - Posted by: DamnCat on September 4, 2008 11:23 PM

Ya had to say it. I read your post and had to blow my nose. I was holding it in, and just lost it on your post.

It is a sad thing that it is so true. But thank God we got one like him.

He's not running for Bush's third term, he's running for Ronnie's third term. With someone like Palin at his side, this country is going to be okay.

On character, narrative, or policy initive, Obama is toast. Palin went from a trailer trash Dan Quayle to a Maragret Thatcher Heinlein Heroine. McCain looks like a kind of guy Ronnie wanted to play in the movies.

Good speech. Good story, good life, good case. Obama and Biden can't compare, they just don't have experiences. Not their fault, but there it is.

McCain is the better man for the job, that is all.

To be honest, my mind is more blown by the fact that Juan Williams is actually giving him props.

yep, if I want a thrill up my leg, I'll go see my wife ;) for someone to run the country, I want someone who understands the cost of liberty, who understands firsthand the cost of war, and the cost of appeasement.

#7 - Posted by: nyexpat on September 5, 2008 12:00 AM

I particularly liked his talk of using the veto (in what will be a run-away, tax-and-spend Congress). The country's not about to give him a mandate of Palin Republicans in the House or the Senate. And like Gerald Ford in the 70's, he'll have to use the veto A LOT.

Dude! Really?

Well that I did not know! Hmmmm....

Oh yeah, just for giggles and sh***, have any of you seen this?

I will reserve judgement until I see the results.

McCain Feingold appears to me to be a blatant afront to the 1st amendment and free speech in general. Essentially rigging it so if you are in you are in ... and if you are out you are damned unlikely to get in.

#10 - Posted by: Freemon Sandlewould on September 5, 2008 01:34 AM

"McCain Feingold appears to me to be a blatant affront to the 1st amendment and free speech in general."

You are correct, (it should have been named the Incumbent Protection Act) and it's one of many things I disagree strongly with John McCain about. Nevertheless, we only (usefully) get to vote for the people running, and I would cheerfully crawl across a field of broken glass in November to cast my vote for John McCain. Hell, now that he named Palin for VP, I'd even crawl back.

#11 - Posted by: Disillusionist on September 5, 2008 07:47 AM

You may not like him, but you have to respect him. McCain has actually done more for this country than the other three running combined ( and I like Gov. Palin, but it's true).

When the phrase "put your money where your mouth is" is applied to those running for office McCain is the only one who can answer, been there, done that, wrote the screenplay made the movie, stage play, musical, designed the sets, drew the artwork and produced the documentary.

But, at least he's not a Marxist.

#13 - Posted by: MarkoMancuso on September 5, 2008 09:03 AM

Shoot, Cindy McCain has more foreign policy experience and has accomplished more than the whole Uhhh-bummer/Bidet ticket!

#14 - Posted by: UpNorthLurkin on September 5, 2008 09:12 AM

Couldn't have said it better. That's exactly hw I felt at the end of his speech.

Obama talks about Patriotism like it's a hot new car he bought to drive to the beach on weekends.

McCain talks about Patriotism like he built that car by hand.

#15 - Posted by: RockThrowingPeasant on September 5, 2008 09:21 AM

That "Peasant" was one of the best descriptions of the difference between Obama and McCain I've ever seen. Great job!

#16 - Posted by: seanmahair on September 5, 2008 09:25 AM

I have problems with a few of McCain's positions but I have a problem with ALL of Obama's. I would much rather spend my time and effort fighting for the few things I disagree about with McCain. I just don't have the time and energy to fight all of the One's socialist/marxist crap.

Besides, once enough of the One's stuff got in and running I wouldn't have enough money left either.

#17 - Posted by: sixpckr on September 5, 2008 11:29 AM

It should be easy to meet someone that is half the man McCain is. Saracuda is going to rip a lot of them in half before they get to the Oval Office, so that should make it pretty simple.

The ones she thinks are cute she's going to rip in half horizontally. The ones that piss her off get ripped in half vertically.

#18 - Posted by: Phelps on September 5, 2008 11:48 AM

"but it will be hard to meet anyone half the man he is."

McCain is a better man and a better American than I am.

He should me that last night, and that is why I am voting for him.

#19 - Posted by: on September 5, 2008 01:33 PM

His speech may not have had all the pomp & circumstance of Obama's, but it had SUBSTANCE, MEANING, HUMILITY, AUTHENTICITY. All of which mean more. McCain's speech was absolutely inspiring as is his story. We would be lucky to have more John McCains in the world, and even luckier to have him in the White House.

McCain/Palin '08

#20 - Posted by: brownfly on September 5, 2008 03:15 PM

Somebody please tell me that these "polls" are bullcrap. The thought that such a large percentage of Americans are actually pro-Obama at this point is hard to fathom.

McCain's speech was irrefutable, and put the Obama campaign to shame! Yet the "Democratic Strategists" are out there with their forced, plastic smiles still talking their pathetic nonsense. So scary that so many people are what can only be referred to as brainwashed.

Even as disenchanted as I am about that, I'm even more proud of John McCain and I pray that the wise old guy and his tough, smart (hottie!) running mate get elected for the sake of our country. I just scraped up $25 to contribute to McCain-Palin. Please everybody at least do the same. Just think how important this is.

#21 - Posted by: compugor on September 5, 2008 07:42 PM

No, kidding, compugor. The fact that 40-50% of our country would go down the path of Socialism / Communism with their heads in the Obama sand is beyond me.

But then, I'm accutely aware of the cynical attitudes of the 'youth' produced by our public schools. Along with the media, my father warned me about this decades ago, "They'll sell you down the river."

#22 - Posted by: Jimmy on September 5, 2008 08:47 PM

I've never donated to any political cause before (though I have worked the polls). Times are tight, but I coughed up $100 for McCain/Palin after his speech. Probably could have and should have done more.

Think about it...

Almost any donation to the campaign will be chump change compared to the effects President Obama's hand in our pockets.

The GOP has run onto seriously hard times as of late, I would say since Newt's revolution was shunted. The promise of a new and reformed party is so alluring to me. When McCain promised not to let us down, I take him at his word. It's time to turn that town upside down. Well past time. I don't think John is right on all the issues, but his heart is pure gold and Palin seems to be the right stuff for sure. That is good enough for now, and sure the hell beats the All-Marxist ticket.

To quote Resevoir Dogs: "Cough up your buck you cheap bastard."

Invest in our future, invest in McCain/Palin. I have a feeling return on investment will be good.

this is what I've been saying

#24 - Posted by: Scooter on September 6, 2008 04:37 AM

I made my kids watch so they could see what a real hero looks like. And so they could understand why we always tell them freedom isn't free. His emphasis on serving really blew me away. And it was no rhetoric - he lived it. If you want to change the world, DO something to change the world. Serve your fellow man. Serve your nation. WOW. So simple and obvious a concept to those of us who love our country, yet so radical considering most supporting the other ticket wouldn't know servanthood if it smacked them upside the head.
