I think a lot of Americans would appreciate getting out of Iraq although I'm not convinced we will leave no matter who is elected. I think we invaded a country (Iraq) that is so pathetic they will never be able to police themselves. As citizens we can be assured of only one thing - that politicians will continue to make our government bigger and bigger and get us into deeper and deeper holes. That's why you might as well just enjoy life and throw a big party. If you spend too much time thinking your guy (George, Barack, Bill, Joe or John) or your girl (Hillary or Sarah) is going to do what you want you'll just be disappointed eventually.

Atom,

Do you you know a friggin thing about Iraq? Despite Saddam Goat Molester Hussein's influence, it is one of the most secular, educated and pro-Western of all the Middle Eastern nations. No other nation in the region is remotely capable of adopting Western style government. It was an odd, bizarre twist of fate that landed us there, but it helped not only us in the war on teh hajji, it gave Iraq a very good foundation to become a great abd influential force in the eternally unstable Middle East.

Well, Biden's son is in Iraq.

I have no quarrel with Joe about patriotism. Never did have, never expect to.

Biden thinks conscientiously and deeply about US foreign relations. He has for nearly thirty years.

And he keeps coming up with the wrong answers.

As long as it doesn't happen before we can take credit for it. That is unaccaptable.

#4 - Posted by: Scooter on September 20, 2008 07:46 AM

Yeah --- what PaleoMedic said.

#5 - Posted by: Greg on September 20, 2008 08:21 AM

In addition to what Paleo Med said, Iran was also the same type of country under the the Shaw (you can thank Jimmy Carter for his demise) Secular, prowestern, educated...especially women... albeit a very deeply traditional country. Of course if you came from a family of peasants this might not be true, but the upper middle class and wealthy generally sent their children here or to the UK to attend university...they loved the US....amazing what a couple of bad leaders can do to a country.

See how much a country can change in 25 or 30 years? Which is why it is important to elect officials that do not want to "change" the USA.

And Biden...bleh :P

Atom, UPS called. Your "Three-Hole Biden" blow-up doll has arrived.

#7 - Posted by: Kent on September 20, 2008 11:34 AM

After meeting with The One last week, not only is Joe's mouth stuck in that position, his hair is growing at a rapid rate!

#8 - Posted by: Jimmy on September 20, 2008 11:56 AM

Kent - lol! awesomesauce!

Paleo - If Iraq can somehow be done cheaper then fine but Bush hasn't been very good at distributing the costs elsewhere. The burden has been on the US and the UK. Also so far Iraq is not showing any signs of overcoming their Sunni-Shia strife and it is very costly to stay there because of the massive military presence it takes to keep them somewhat stable. I don't see what the benefit is here of spending all of taxpayer's money over the next 2 or 3 decades to turn this hellhole around. It sounds like a very liberal thing to want to turn another country around. I'm not into this liberal concept of nation building. If Obama becomes president and can get other nations involved and reduce our burden then that would be better. Bush and McCain seem to hated around the world to get the job done. But like I said before I'm having a big party no matter who wins! I won't be mad because I am American and I will be proud of McCain-Palin even though I boo at them now. Boo McCain-Palin boo or Palin-McCain as she said it the other day.

My Plan for Ultimate Election Happiness

Obama is very cool and some people will be very sad if he loses. But I don't think the Palin likers will be as said is she loses because they just discovered and her and she is so new. She has been like a gift to you guys. Palin supporters will just be like we will start campaigning for her to be president right now! So, it would make the most people the happiest if Obama wins this year and then all the Palin backers get a big campaigning going and defeat Obama in 2012. The Obama will be a little sad but they will still be like well, we did have 4 years of our dood. So here's my plan.

Vote for Obama in 2008
Vote for Palin in 2012

w00t!! This outcome will result in the most number of pleased Americans. It has the largest happiness potential of any plan ever. What do you think?

Sean Hannity is fond of saying that Israel is the only pro-western democracy in the mid-east.
He'll have to revise that.
Iraq is now as much a pro-western democracy as Israel.
They have a constitution and a freely elected government.
There's still a hostile group or two violently apposed to the government and their allies, supported by rival nations seeking their downfall, so ... hey!
They're Exactly like Israel!

#6 Pammy-

My boss is a immigrant from Iran and recently went back for a month to introduce his kids to their relatives. According to him, the educated middle class in Iran is still pretty pro-American and definitely pro-democracy.

The problem is that the Mullahs have the mob behind them and the middle class does not have a lever that can shift the Mullahs out of power.

Atom - Dude, you really should consider English as a second language classes. Or maybe just upping the meds would work.

Kent & Jimmy: Nailed it. (Figuratively, people!)
I was thinking along the lines of Harvey's lolterrizt: "Invisible schwanz"
