The real reason Obama voted present so many times in the Illinois state senate:

The place is the Illinois state senate, the roll is being called. As senators are voting aye or nay we hear snoring in the background.

"Smith....Aye, Williams....nay, Johnson.....nay, Obama.............., Obama?................., Barack Hussein Obama!"

Sound of someone waking up, "uh, uh, Present!"

The Chair remarks, " Obama votes present, again."

..............................................

See, there is a simple explanation for everything

Shaffer did have one habit... as soon as McCain really started making stuff stick, he darted in with "Time's up!" As I commented elsewhere, it was just this side of leaping in front of the camera, slow-motion, crying "NOOOOOOO!"

I was high-fiving my Ladybug when Ayers and ACORN came up, but I wish he'd nailed him on the Fannie Mae stuff.

Obama - "Let me tell you who I associate with...."
McCain, as possessed by Nightfly (only in a benign fashion) - "You forgot a couple of guys: the two guys responsible for driving Fannie Mae into an iceberg and nearly sinking the entire housing market. One of them is your financial advisor and the other helped pick your vice-president. You say you want to change the failed economic policies of the past, but the ones responsible for enacting them are working for your campaign - which is a very kind way of thanking them for donating over $100,000 from Fannie Mae to you. All of this happened at the behest of your party, which then stonewalled my own efforts to help reform them and hold them accountable."
Obama - "Pffft. Facts are for honkeys."

Yeah Sarahk. I do think Senator McCain did well but he didn't crush the bastard with a resounding blow like I wish he would've. At least he did tell people to investigate on their own when B.O. said he "didn't do that" " didn't say that" , etc.

greg, 'Japan' is not ahead. Toyota and Honda are ahead, because they're the most productive automakers in the world (GM and Ford and Chrysler are better than the big Euro automakers and the second-tier Japanese companies). Even when they make cars in the US. Now, some of the reasons for that have to do with bad deals between the big three, the UAW, and the state of Michigan, which make the costs for US automakers higher.

"Anyway, he says we need to prop up the automakers but make sure to hamstring those evil oil companies."

You have to listen to him closely. He thinks we should bale out the auto companies, but only if they make obamamobiles.

I work for an auto company. We haven't been dragging our heels. Japan's subsidies are what put them ahead, I believe. I could be wrong. I do know that we couldn't sell our previous Electric car and haven't really been in a position to mass manufacture a loss leader like the Prius.

THat being said, pretty much every politician including President Bush talks out their ass when they discuss the auto industry.

Excellent review of the debate. My wife watched it for me as watching "The One" speak gets me too fired up. Instead I folded laundry as doing chores is good stress relief. I better be careful as my wife may vote for Obama strictly to get me to remain in hyper clean mode for the next 4 years.

Yeah. That was fun. I even had my 2yo daughter shaking her finger and saying "No!" every time Obama came on the screen.

Good thing he set me straight about the Supreme Court judges being all about fairness and justice. Cause I was thinking maybe the Constitution should be in there somewhere.

PaleHose,

"Being proud of being ignorant is Unamerican." ...so..are you finally admitting that liberalism is un-American?

"...not the “facts” that Hannity spoonfeeds you." Before throwing accusations, it would be a good idea to stop guzzling the cool-aid. I'm a conservative, not a robot to either party, but I, like the rest of the folks here, can smell feces when it's shoveled, and "the messiah" and the dems have been driving one hell of a manure spreader lately.

"Why don’t you talk to T. Boone Pickens (your advertiser and a really rich oilman) about that “global warming crock”? Or try any meteorology undergrad at the University of your choice." What makes you think oil companies don't want a piece of Goreleonie's bull-pucky pie? I suppose because George Sorros has a pile of money means he's a republican. Sorry to shatter "rich, stuffy white guys have to be Republican" ideology...most of the greediest men that I know are phony liberals. They're the ones who brew the cool-aid for useful idiots. The conversion to socialism won't come breaking in through the front door where it can be seen...it will be spoon fed to children and those who want to feel like they are "good people" by trying hard to convince themselves and others they care for the poor and the children.
Don't bring up the university system...that's ground zero for liberal brainwashing. Especially science. "Global warming" is just another scam to create grants. This year is seeing a drop in temperatures, and years ago, when we had a hot streak, interestingly enough, Mars warmed at the same rate. I guess Martians are driving SUV's and have polluting industry as well. If you look at recorded temperatures, the highs were in the early part of the 20th century, before cars were mass produced and only a handful of countries were industrialized. Anyone who does the most basic (honest) research can find that temperatures go in cycles and are most directly linked to the sun's activity. In fact, here in Sparks, it dropped "global warming" all Friday...we usually don't start getting it until on or just after Halloween.

"Earlier McCain was talking about Obama “raising taxes on the middle class.” Just another smear from a desperate, scared man…" Do I have to list all the desperate attacks (at nausea), mostly fabricated, that came come from "the messiah?" I listen to talk radio most of the day, and I happen to hear Osam...I mean Obama ads nearly 10 to 1 over McCain, all of them smear tactics.

If you have five employees making roughly the US median income (~$50K/yr), and you aren't bringing in $250K/yr, then you are losing money even if you had no other expenses (like, I don't know, taxes and benefits, and paying yourself). I wish McCain had hit back with that when he said he only wanted to raise taxes on businesses making over $250K/yr.

PaleHose - you are smirt. Linking to Wikipedia on corporations shows that you know bizzness good.

Sorry to break it to you dude, but the magic no taxes fairy doesn't come along when you form a corporation and absolve you of taxes.

Joe the plumber would most likely become an S-corp (the most attractive form of corps. for businesses earning around 250,000), which means that the income (or loss) from would be reported on corporate tax returns, flow through to his personal returns, then Joe would pay any taxes on that income. No magic and no getting around paying the tax. There are ways to play with the income so that the corporate taxes show no profit, but the business owner has the burden of paying the taxes on that income either way.

Hose - next time try explaining something you have more experience and knowledge in - perhaps in nose picking or killer bong hits.

You can leave the 'splanin of the finer points of corporations to those of us who have actually worked for a living and worked our asses off to start and run small businesses.

While reading this thread, my iTunes played Barry McGuire's "Eve of Destruction".

It's sad that my Mac Mini is apparently more aware of what's at stake in this election than a majority of Americans.

Serious Comment:

McCain just doesn't get it.

He continues to talk to 'intelligent people'. John, Intelligent People have already decided against Obama !!!

McCain didn't gain ONE SINGLE voter from these debates. He lost voters if you ask me. He'd have been better off not going.
