Mourning
What’s a mournful-sounding song? Preferably one sung by a girl and in my range. Give me a list. You’ll be happy you did.

Jimmy, “May it Be” is good. I also just thought of “My Skin” by Natalie Merchant.

Evanesance – Going Under

GLaDDOS – Still Alive
Other Sad songs.
Alan Parsons Project – Old and Wise, silence and I, turn of a friendly card, don’t let it show,
Genesis – mad man moon
Rich Mullins – hard to get
Steve Scott – not a pretty picture

We’ll meet again, dont know where, dont know when!
November 5th, 2008 at 1:44 am
We’ll meet again, don’t know where, don’t know when,
but I know well meet again, some sunny day.
Keep smiling through, just like you, always do,
’till the blue skies drive the dark clouds, far away.
So will you please, say hello, to the folks that I know,
tell them I wont be long, they’ll be happy to know
that as they saw me go I was singing this song.
But I KNOW we’ll meet again, don’t know where, don’t know when, but I know well meet again, some sunny day!

Mansions of the Lord
November 5th, 2008 at 2:30 am
If ya wanted to use an older song you could go with Seasons in the Sun. Or if you’re into sappy songs, try Honey by Bobby Goldsboro. Those two always make me feel sad. Mansions of the Lord makes me cry. What a beautiful song.

Fair warning – I have a bizarrely eclectic music collection
Sad songs with Female Vocals:
Hate You Didn’t Try – Leah Andreone
Sally’s Pigeons – Cyndi Lauper
Trouble – Shawn Colvin
Those Were the Days – Mary Hopkin
Everytime – Britney Spears
Jolene – Mindy Smith
Love is a Killer, Cryin’ – Vixen
It’s All Over Now Baby Blue (Baez cover of Dylan)
Leftover Wine, Momma Momma, Some Say – Melanie Safka
On My Own – from Les Miserables
My Immortal – Evanescence
Bang Bang – Nancy Sinatra
And some from male vocalists but I’m sure you could adjust them, key change, octave change, whatever to fit your range:
Runaway Train – Soul Asylum
Teachers, Avalanche, Hallalujah, A Singer Must Die, Everybody Knows, One of Us Cannot Be Wrong, The Partisan – all Leonard Cohen
The Boxer – Simon & Garfunkel (Shawn Colvin and others did a gorgeous cover – female vocals)
A Strange Day – The Cure
The Price – Twisted Sister
There Isn’t Here, Queen of Diamonds – Garrett Randolph
Tell Laura I Love Her – Ray Peterson
Cross the Brazos at Waco – I have no freakin’ clue
November 5th, 2008 at 1:57 pm
Also:
This Ain’t the Summer of Love – Blue Oyster Cult
Waltzing Matilda – whoever
No Milk Today – Herman’s Hermits
Hell is for Children, The Outlaw – Pat Benatar
Luka – Suzanne Vega

“Dirt” by NIN is a good choice, but for female vocals I’d go with “Planet Hell” by Nightwish…if you’re a spectacular operatic vocalist.
