Skills for the Future

Posted by Frank J. on March 23, 2009 at 12:03 pm

Do you think we’re training our kids with the proper skills to succeed at the jobs of the future? I think too many of them are specializing in things like computers which will be completely useless when Obama’s screw up causes society to collapse, we lose electricity, and we’re forced to being an agrarian society once again. Just something to keep in mind.

I’m confused. Why would anyone be “choosing” a career in the future? Won’t Obama be assigning jobs to everyone?

  2. Atomic Lib Smasher says:

I’m pretty handy with a shovel. I think I’ll do a good job under Obama’s Mandatory Volunteerism Act (video warning: Hot chick with a shovel)

  3. IH8Socialist says:

we don’t need to train our kids with poper skills anymore because the Mighty Obama will give them welfare not to work and illegals will do all the jobs America’s are paid not do…….

  4. BigRichardSmall says:

I have no worries. My 4 year old is proficient with a firearm.

  5. innominatus says:

No worries here, either. Once the ChiComs complete their strategies for Global Dominance, they’ll give us jobs in the sweatshops making cheap crap for them to sell in their discount stores. Our manufacturing sector will rise again, this time making lead-plated kiddie teething toys!

  6. MarkoMancuso says:

Skills? Like waiting-in-bread-line skills? Or killing-a-drifter-for-his-gas skills?

  7. dav in LA says:

Those kids in ag & shop classes may e well ahead of those taking advanced trig after all..

  8. BillyRayBob says:

What about Minstrel skills? Singing of legends of the “Before Time” in the “Long Long Ago”.

  9. DesertElephant says:

As soon as society collapses, I’m taking my followers, invading a refinery, and defending my “guzzoline” from, Lord Humongous. But I’ll be sure to have lots of Ammo, unlike those wusses in Mad Max.

  10. PammyV says:

beer making is a skill which will keep coins in your pockets when all is lost!

  11. Mgbfred says:

Sight picture control, and hand reloading. By FAR the most valuable skills for the future

  12. BundelNotz says:

Guess then I will just fold up my cardboard will work for food sign and move to the working peoples gardens. IMAO by smoke signal will the coolest thing going so all will not be lost. Gonna miss that corner on 419 though.

My 11 year old girl has mad financial skillz. Her being cuter than cuuuuute doesn’t hurt either. Boy, can that girl make a deal! She was getting paid to do chores, so she talked a neighbor girl into doing her chores for half the price and she pocketed the difference. She’s already had a business where she hired neighborhood kids as salespeople, and she has lent money out at interest. All this before she’s old enough to babysit.

In about 5 years we’re gonna have to sit on the front porch with a shotgun picking off the boys who don’t move fast enough.

  14. George says:

Sausage making (as long as no one asks, “What’s in it?”)

The sad thing is, I have been considering this quite a bit lately. Whereas I may lack in some of the fundamental survival skills required in an 1800s society, my parents possess enough between the two of them for me to survive with them (assuming, of course, that I learn fast enough once all hell breaks loose to keep up). Add in a well-hidden hunting cabin in the middle of nowhere that my dad owns and I think I will survive when everything goes to pot.

Lem’me tell ‘ya what’s useful… The RICH Liberals, you know, the hollywood crowd, Politicians, some others… They’ll still have food and gold when society breaks down from BHO’s liberal spending spree / TV Laugh Fest. After all, they eat pretty well now, and you know
they pulled thier money out of Wall St already! I tought my daughters how to shoot, very well! Since liberals, and zombie’s, don’t have
guns I have invested my money in Guns and Ammo, not the magazine. After an appropriate waiting period demanded by the liberals, folks
like me will have Food, Gold, and Guns and less Ammo! Of course this is only the SHTF senario. There’s the slow bleed us dry senario where things don’t really break down, the just bleed us dry until we have to sell everything we own, including Guns and Ammo, just to keep eating once or twice a week….. Then there’s the Obama pulls it off senario where everything, including the DOW is back to normal before
the end of the year…. yeah, RIGHT!

    #10 – PammyV,
    Do you brew?
    Me too!
There was a small town on Highway 81 in North Dakota.
Every year it seemed the population dwindled and businesses shut down or moved away.
The last business in town to remain open and profitable was the local bar.
When it closed the town died.
Things have to get pretty bad before people loose the will to drink!

  18. PammyV says:

My brother brews….I can’t have all that equipment around with two rambuncious boys. I figure if worse comes to worse, I’ll go into biz with him.

  19. 4 of 7 says:

    PammyV,

If your brother goes commercial, ask him if he needs an apprentice brewmeister, I’ll work cheap!
