I deeply respect our former SecState Condi Rice, in tall leather boots saying howdy to the troops, or just in regular pumps with a sensible heel for working in the office. And if it weren’t for Jim Baker, Condi would own the record for hottest SecState evah!.

Troops are disarmed. I was in Afghanistan when That One swung through on his “foreign policy orientation 101″ trip last summer. You weren’t allowed to have a leatherman or weapon of any kind at an event he attends.

I was in a group once that got to see the great Defense Secretary Rumsfeld speak when I was waiting to go to Iraq my first time. The only “Filtering” Rumsfeld guy did was if you had a question, sit near the Isle so we can get a microphone to you, and ask him any question you like. This was a far cry from the Clinton years where you received a briefing to “Stay in your Lane” Which meant don’t ask any questions of any real value to any official.

Rumsfeld should have done the Clinton route this was the famous incident where the army “Lambasted” Rumsfeld about armor for humvees. Sadly the question was about armor for support vehicles like 5 tons and LMTV’s, not humvees. And the media failed to report on a lot of questions the Secretary got standing ovations for.

Looks like the filtering for officials questions has changed, but the media getting the story completely screwed up is still the same.

Stop it right now. I mean it. The troops are always thrilled when they get to act as props for a high government official, and there is none more exalted than President Obama. Actually any empty suit will do to make them exited, and if the troops actually like the person in the suit (or in the thigh boots – remember Condi?) then all the better.

I didn’t see Obama serving any dinner to the troops, though. He might want to work on that, so he can parallel Bush’s behavior even more. Or would it be racist to suggest that Barry would gain approval from the troops by serving out taters in a lunch line?
