At work I've been counseled for not being a "Team Player" so I decided to drop back my effort to 80 percent so two others on my "team" could give 110.

cjtony97....I was in the USAF from 1963 to 1983. The time I spoke of was in 1963 at Amarillo AFB TX. By the way Amarillo was the only place in my 20 years in the USAF where you could stand in mud up to your knees....and still have dust blow in your face, ever been there?

Back in the day when I was in the USAF as a tech school student we marched to school Monday thru Friday. Once a week on our march to school we were graded on our marching ability by a group of officers. These men sat on a set of bleachers especially constructed for this purpose and as we passed by they graded and evaluated us. To this day I have no idea what their criteria was in reaching their conclusions and evaluations but I do know that we never came in first....never. We usually came in fourth or fifth out of about twelve school squadrons being judged on the day of evaluation. As I said this evaluation took place once a week and each day after the evaluations were announced our deputy squadron commander, a classic dip stick second lieutenant, would form us up at ridged attention in the hot Texas sun and proceed to shout, yell, and harangue us for a good fifteen or twenty minutes about our inability to be the number one marching squadron. He would try to inspire us by telling us how ashamed he was to be associated with people who couldn't do any better at marching then us and in his squeaky second lieutenant voice he would explain to us that if we just gave 110% we too could be number one! Of course none of us gave a rat's ass about being number one as we figured that only one squadron could be number one and therefore the odds were against us, and anyway what the f**k was wrong with being number four or five ....at least we weren't last! Anyway, to this day I have always distrusted people who tell me I should give 110%.

In my band, when we jam, we are able to play the volume at 11. It's 10% louder than all other groups. Is there a tax on volume yet? Kinda like Cap 'n Trading 8s?

I (call me crazy) always questioned the premise of a 110%. I mean philosphically speaking can anything ever be more that a 100%? I mean if it reached 110% wouldnt that then become the new 100%......

We should ask Stephen Hawking's.... I heard he's a pretty smart guy...
