Never give up. No matter how many people tell you it can’t be done, no matter how tired and beat down you are, no matter how many members of mall security are currently screaming at you, and no matter how sane or rational it seems, never ever give up.

“I’ll get there if I leave everything but my bones behind. And I’ll carry Mr. Frodo up myself, if it breaks my back and heart.”
– S. Gamgee, in Mordor Mall, determined beyond all reasonableness to show Frodo the neat lava lamps at the Orodruin Cash’n'Carry (“Where rings and centuries-old hobbits are gladly accepted in trade”) on the second level, no matter what the freaky-looking one-eyed manager and his nine rent-a-cops at the top of the stairs have to say about it.
One of my favorite lines, and my most favorite character, from The Lord of the Rings (books, not movies).

When those Phone-Charity-Soliciters call asking for ‘up’, I always tell them that I never give ‘up’, as a matter of principle.
When friends ask if they can borrow that new Disney/Pixar DVD, I tell them “I never give ‘Up’ to anyone. Perhaps I’m being selfish.
