And I also use “obamavoter” as a curse, usually while driving in city traffic. “The light’s green, obamavoter! You of all people should recognize the stupid color green!”

Michael, that was good! So your Toyota starts suddenly accelerating, if you’re an idiot from New Jersey, apparently the first thing that comes to mind is to dig out your cell phone and dial 911 and ask them for help. If only there was an independent system whose sole purpose was to stop the car. We could call it a “brake”. Or if not that, another independent system whose sole purpose is to stop the engine from igniting. We could call that the “ignition switch.” Or even better still, a transmission mode where it is mechanically separated from the engine. We could call it “neutral”. No, I guess none of those things would work. What this problem (or any problem) needs is congressional hearings!

They should’ve listened to Mitch Hedberg. “An escalator can never break: it can only become stairs. You would never see an Escalator Temporarily Out Of Order sign, just Escalator Temporarily Stairs. Sorry for the convenience.”

Sadly, here in Tucson, AZ, I have seen an Escalator Out of Order sign that had just stopped. It wasn’t unsafe to walk up but the mall it was in had roped off one end.
