Is the Stimulus Working?

Posted on July 14, 2010 11:02 am

According to a CBS poll, 56% think that the stimulus had no impact on the economy and 18% thinks it made it worse. So that’s 74% of Americans who think the nearly trillion dollars the Democrats spent either did nothing or made things worse. And if we were going to waste a trillion dollars on something that doesn’t work, couldn’t it have least been something cool like trying to build our own Death Star?

So anyway, bad news for Democrats as we near November that it looks like they totally wasted a trillion dollars, but Obama is of course going to argue that things would have been even worse if we hadn’t threw all that money down a hole. Of course, unemployment is now worse than his worse case estimates for what things would have been like without the stimulus, but he’s still saying it totally worked and we’d have like a million percent unemployment if it weren’t for him.

That makes me think of that one Simpsons episode where Lisa tries to explain specious reasoning to Homer by claiming a rock keeps away tigers. Except it’s even dumber in Obama’s case:

OBAMA: This rock keeps away tigers.

AMERICANS: Aieee! We just got attacked by tigers!

OBAMA: Well, think of how worse things would be without the rock! Anyway, that will be one trillion dollars for the rock.

The stimulus is working? Odd 10% of Americans aren’t.

Government employment is the only thing that has increased. This guy Obama is even depressing blog traffic. Hell, you had better numbers when RON PAUL! was the center of attention.

    The next solution is obvious.

Let me check the checklist first…….uh, already done.

Little known fact: The economy would have self destructed if I hadn’t taken time to have a sit on the crapper this morning. Prove I’m wrong! Or elect me President.

Hey, let’s create a trillion dollar slush fund for my backers, give the banks who screwed this up more cash to loan out without any requirements they loan it out, place so many regulations on business it can barely function, and when it all collapses blame the other party. Yea, that’s the ticket.

I wonder how so many came to that conclusion since neither view has certainly ever been pushed or even presented by the big networks or any of the cable networks other then fox news. They certainly did not turn on a weekly sitcom to hear about the stimulus being mocked or railed against.

Lets find the 20+/- ‘ish percent of that 74% who think it was wasted and know the left is going pushing for more stimulus but are still going to vote for them anyway. We get them into counseling or give them a shiny toy to play with while the adults clean up. Or we could give them a one way first class ticket to Mexico, Venezuela, or Cuba where their leftists dreams can be a day to day living funland.

The stimulus certainly had some effect of creating jobs directly but indirectly it cost even more jobs by scaring the hell out of investors, savers, spenders etc… I would think of the ratio like this for every trillion dollars the government spends people collectively save 2 trillion knowing that the government will in the future come for them when it comes time to pay it back.

The unemployed are unemployed because they are racists. So are rocks!

I will repost my statement from the other day

“Is the left going to admit that the stimulus did not work yet? Stimulus could be broken down to a few main parts. All fueled by debt. Can not imagine why that did not jump start the world economy.
-Tax cuts for people who already dont pay taxes,
    -State and Union Bail outs
-30 year backlog of Liberal pet projects and wish lists. “

Good job using the Lisa/tigers thing, it made my day. I reference that in everyday conversation a ton but I haven’t quite found a way to explain what I mean by it without a long boring not worth it explanation.

  10. Jimmy says:

I’m still holding out for a good, old-fashioned tax revolt and government shut-down followed by a bunch of well-dressed Congressional bums getting tomato’ed on the streets of D.C.

  11. EnemyoftheState says:

If I didn’t pay my taxes, Nancy Pelosi would have to fly back and forth between Washington and San Francisco SOBER. That makes me so proud and patriotic I could just puke.

  12. zzyzx says:

Also, if you (and a lot of other people) didn’t pay your taxes Nancy Pelosi would have to find an office that costs a lot less than $18,000.00 per mounth.

  13. Son of Bob says:

…and we can only imagine what “November surprise” the Republicans will come up with to sink themselves before the election. Don’t count out the baffling ability of the “good ol’ boy” RINO’s to jump to the left and screw it up.
