Failing to Resist the Urge to Call Bloomberg a Boob Over This

Posted on July 31, 2012 8:04 am

Mayor Bloomberg is pushing New York City hospitals to hide baby formula so more new moms will breast-feed.

No word on whether this crusade will involve any cup-size limitations.

Yes, Bloomberg is over the top and ridiculous. However, in 2009 CMS codified ‘exclusive breastfeeding’ as a core quality measure for hospitals. They have to reports the rates of breast feeding vs formula, and are required to ‘educate’ patients on the benefits of BF and the risks of formula. They also have to document why every patient who doesn’t breast feed should be an exclusion from the quality measure. Starting in 2014, they could start having their Medicare reimbursements reduced if they don’t follow this guideline, and the other 14 quality measures.

    Yay, government.

That 36 oz is too big, split it into two 16 oz for me, please.

I would comment, but KnitterChick would tell me I’m gross … like THAT’s a state secret!

The New York Post article has some hilarious comments. Really, really funny. You’ll like most of them, they’re right up our alley, as it were.

Word on the street from Huggy Bear: Bloomberg also plans unannounced visits to hospital maternity wards to personally check that every new mother is breast feeding…face it, the man is just a perv.

My body, my choice!! …oh, he’s a liberal? Never mind, that’s fine.

  9. KnitterChick says:

Thank you for covering this, Harvey.

    I remain incensed.

(why no hat-tip, though? why? *sigh*)

Sorry, Ogrrre. You may as well go ahead. Why should I be the only one suffering with that image in my brain?

  10. Jimmy says:

Well, not to be out-done by this obvious ploy by Bloomberg, Harvey is recommending that female IMAO commenters will now put away their formula bottles and demonstrate proper breast feeding technique.

Okay, that’s just wrong. But fun!

  11. Bob in Feenicks says:

It should be entertaining when the FDA steps in and regulates breast milk to assure its quality:

“Want to breastfeed? Include a sample with the required paperwork and pay a nominal fee. If approved, you will receive your license in 4-6 months”

Hey, I don’t want to be reminded that I’m a mammal.

Wait… Let me think on this a bit.
