Hurricane Isabel (2003) cut the Outer Banks north of Hatteras Village; the state filled the small inlet in. Hurricane Sandy destroyed NC 12 on the Outer Banks; it should be repaved in time for Old Christmas, and probably December 25th. I call it the King Canute Memorial Highway myself since it washes out with almost every hurricane.

Harvey, you did not mention barbeque, much less the two kinds (eastern and western) and the difference between them (-10%). Eastern barbeque is cooked from the whole hog and uses vinegar sauces; western is cooked from the shoulders and the sauces are ketchup based. Both are chopped. Neither is the same as a pig picking, which means walk by the grill and pick the meat you want from the pig.

I had a professor in college from Nebraska who told me that a green hay bale weighs about 250 pounds. I mentioned that a dried sheet of tobacco weighs about 150 and that it was no wonder Nebraska was so tough in football.

They really did move the Cape Hatteras lighthouse 1,500 feet in 1999, very, very slowly and very carefully. It's made of brick and still standing.

Go Wolfpack!

Any North Carolina native will tell you it's actually "Tar Holes" for reasons I shall refrain from writing about in this venue. This does remind me of a very old riddle asked of all incoming students at NC State:
Q: How do you separate the men from the boys at UNC?
A: With a crowbar.
