I agree that a monument the size of the Statue of Liberty (height: 151 feet 1 inch, or from ground to torch: 305 feet 1 inch) would do the job. But please remember the two variants I propose are “landscape format” (height: 1,668.6 feet), or “portrait format” (height: 4,368.7 feet). In other words, my preferred size (portrait format) would be over 14 times the height of the Statue of Liberty.

But here’s the thing: Americans still consider themselves a rugged and free people even as they vote to give freedom up for free stuff. Doublethink has never been so rampant. Colleges proclaim the necessity of academic freedom as they write speech codes, and only us kooky righties think there’s anything odd about that.

I do not know if there’s any way to get through this invincible ignorance, and I don’t think a monument the size of the Statue of Liberty would do it.
