Yeah, but he was a raaaaaaaaaaaaaaacist white guy who owned slaves! What could he possibly know? Now if he had just reached out the hand of friendship to the British…..

It comes down to the same results as the Death Penalty.
No matter how it makes you feel, it does lower Recidivism.

In all fairness, there is no evidence that George Washington actually shot anyone himself or that he ever used a weapon in self defense. He was big on wrestling for sport. But as a large man, he had an unnatural advantage in that. And in his role as Commander in chief of the continental army, George had an analogous role to BH Obama. Is that really the parallel you were wanting to draw? Also, Washington didn’t have a right to free speach. The revolution predated the Constitution. It is arguable if Washington had any rights at all since his primary rights were his rights as a free Englishman, a system he was rebelling against.

Prof Hale, George Washington’s rights predated the Constitution, the settlement of this continent by Europeans, the fall of the Roman Empire, written language of any kind or even the first liberal to come along and try and violate the rights of another human. If you thought the Constitution was anything other than a weapon to wield against, or a hurdle to overcome in punishment of your enemies you would find this self evident.

Doh,
You clearly don’t understand rights. They come from somewhere. Not all of them come from God. The vast tide of human history is devoid of what most Americans call “rights” today. The right to self preservation is a God given right. The right to bear arms is a Constitutional right that the People retained for themselves and provided for in the Constitution in order to support their right to life, as well as to support their right to liberty, another right that is very rare in human history no matter how much Locke and Bastiat might have wanted otherwise.
George Washington had specific rights granted to him by a thousand years of ENGLISH history. The specific grievances of the colonists in the Declaration of independence were grievances about how their rights as Englishmen had been thwarted. Mezo American Indians had no such rights. Africans had no such rights. Chinese peasants still have no such rights. Not even Spanish colonists had those rights, and note how different the spanish speaking countries are today as a result.
But there is no need to argue about this. I claim I have a right to self preservation whether my government agrees with me or not. And that right without reasonable arms (whatever i can afford and can reasonably operate) is pointless. So weather you understand rights or not doesn’t really matter. We can agree that we have this one even though George Washington would have disagreed with us strongly.
