I understand your frustration. It comes in waves for me and the streaming services to which I subscribe. Right now, I don’t think I’ve watched anything from Netflix (streaming) in about a month. Almost everything is Hulu Plus or Amazon Instant Video.

But, during the fall, I hardly used Amazon, but used Netflix and Hulu Plus for most everything.

Again, for me, it comes in waves.

About 4 weeks after doing the same thing my wife and I were flipping through the online streaming catalog looking for something to watch. We searched through a bunch of reality TV shows and 2 star movies and promptly canceled the streaming portion as well.

Or, you can own it from Amazon Instant Video for under $30. Costs more than disc, yes. But you can download it to TiVo, or stream it to Roku, Xbox, iPad, iPhone, and other devices. Same for much content.

@8 – That’s the same reason I’m still getting discs, but a thought occurred to me. If you’re willing to wait, would it be cheaper to buy the DVDs?

Say I save $6 month, that’s $72 a year. I just checked eBay, and you can realistically get a Game of Thrones Season 1 set for around $20 shipped.

Just throwing that out there.

I would never give up the DVD-by-mail portion of my hybrid plan. All of HBO is only available by disc. I’m an avid fan of “Boardwalk Empire” and “Game of Thrones”. Starz’ “Spartacus” is not available for streaming and I couldn’t live without that.

Besides that, I’m always coming up with things I want to see that will never be available on Streaming. For instance, there is a 1981 TV miniseries of “East of Eden”. A very interesting movie introducing Jane Seymour as a femme fatale.

But I do like to save money so I cancelled cable. $90 bucks a month saved. That was two years ago. I’ll never go back to time-slot TV. Netflix forever.

Netflix is still pushing the disk service. I got an invitation yesterday to add it “for only $6 a month.”

Some Hitchcock films are only available on disk, though more of his catalog is available for streaming. The last TV show I watched via Netflix disk was Criminal Minds. Had never seen it, heard it was good, and since it’s not on Netflix streaming, the only options were disk or purchase from Amazon or iTunes. I did disk, liked it, and now we’re buying older seasons from Amazon Instant Video until we catch up (currently watching Season Five).

Oh, and, yeah, Netflix CEO Reed Hadtings is a big Democrat supporter. But, who running an entertainment company isn’t?

So now you only donate half of what you were to the occupant. Good for you!

I have Century Link for Internet access, streaming is more like listening to the occupant speak. Painful.

I couldn’t think of 5 movies that were worth my time to sit through, so that kind of service would be fruitless. Dang no fruit (sigh).

I dropped the DVD’s as soon as they did the price change. We just don’t watch movies that much anymore (it’s hard to find the time for a whole movie), but we sure watch a lot of TV shows on Netflix streaming.

We just did the same thing. We had the same Breaking Bad disc sitting on our kitchen top since July. Between the streaming, Amazon Instant Prime, and Hulu there’s really no point to the service anymore.
