Part of the story is clearly missing, why did they start shooting at him exactly? I'm happy to hear about criminals getting shot, but there are two possibilities here:

1. They started shooting at the robber for no reason.
2. They confronted the man to try and recover the stolen property, he pulled his gun or such, and shooting and german shepherding ensued.

Like I said, I'm happy to have criminals being shot, but I'm less enthusiastic about situations where violence could have been avoided. I have no problems with private citizens pursuing and arresting those who they know to have committed a crime, by force if need be, the police would never have recovered that property, or found the robber.

"In the end, the two witnesses turned vigilantes won and took down the bad guy."

There's your answer, Harvey. It was right in the story. To a lib, two citizens taking down a mugger are "vigilantes." So, clearly they're the bad guys and their guns are to blame.
