Can’t Let This Crisis Go to Waste

Posted on February 4, 2013 8:00 am

The State Department announced that it will close the office that was set up 4 years ago to close Gitmo.

Wanna bet Obama gives the office a half-billion dollars to re-open as a solar power company?

(Also – with apologies to Yakov Smirnoff – “In Obama America, Gitmo closes YOU!”)

Gee, the folks who were screaming about George Bush and Gitmo sure have been quiet. Much like the ones who were screaming that George Bush caused 9/11. When Obama keeps Gitmo open, it’s cool; when Obama fails to uncover the Bush conspiracy, it’s…well, I haven’t heard any reasons given for that. Could it be that even THEY don’t believe it?

Don’t forget that it’ll probably take a billion dollars to close the office. After all, you have to pay someone to go through all the sensitive documents, archiving them, arrange to cancel the ten year lease you signed on the office rental, sell all the expensive furniture and computers you bought, pay to relocate all the employees that were working there. It takes more to close a government office than it does to keep it running, even if it serves no purpose.

Those had to have been pretty boring jobs. They spent four years doing nothing. I bet they got paid well though. Thanks taxpayers!

The whole “special envoy for closing the prison at Guantánamo Bay” was just Obama voting “present” on the issue. Now that he’s been reelected he doesn’t even have to show up for a vote.

Silly rabbit. That is so last term. It wll be reopened as combination gun control/gay rights office. And they’ll call it Deptartment of Firearms and Gays. Then after they spend millions of dollars promoting it, they’ll notice its acronym and spend a few milllion more renaming it….

The employees in the Close Gitmo Office were probably double-dipping as the Jobs Committee. It goes without saying they were probably all from Chicago-and never left there.
