“Have Some Self-Respect; Don’t Be a New Yorker”
So now Bloomberg is going after styrofoam. It’s almost like he’s begging to be stopped now and for someone to assert pride in freedom and that there are some limits to government power. The way things are going, though, in the future “New Yorker” is going to be a term than means “weak-willed ninnie who can be bullied by anyone.” So, New Yorkers, why don’t you finally do the right thing and lock Bloomberg up in a shoe box and throw him in the harbor before people lose all respect for you.

“New Yorker” has replaced “French” as the put-down of choice for sissiest on the playground.

So, “New Yorkers” are street smart in a rude sort of way. But just not politician smart?
I’m trying to be nice here.
Never been there.

If I decide to smuggle in a Big Gulp in a styrofoam cup and walk out in Times Square will the the SWAT team be called in to address the situation or will Bloomberg just call his buddy Obama for a drone strike?

I knew New York was wussified when I saw the utter WIMPINESS of police response to the Occupy crowd. Seattle has gone through the same transformation-the WTO riots here turned the police into scaredy cats, afraid to uphold law and order.

New Yorkers would do well to take a shorter, more-productive path: ban mayors.

Well they could use edible Bacon containers.
That would work for a while. But eventually they would have to replace the Bacon with the Ultimate environmentally friendly Green product, recycled protien (aka Soylent Green).

So, then any NY companies that manufacture or sell anything fragile can no longer ship product…I’m thinking that might be yet another incentive for more companies to move out of New York.

As a New Yorker, I appreciate the opportunities Mayor Bloomberg provides to feel like a true resident, namely when I swear and gesture with as much attitude as can be mustered in response to his limply petty fascism. Or maybe we could just elect a damn mayor who fights crime and not big sodie pop cups. My middle finger is sore.

He has to pick his “fights” carefully.
His real enemy Obama frightens him too much, but styrofoam doesn’t fight back.

Not ALL New Yorkers are wussified. If we could just get NYC to secede, the rest of us could deal with Albany. Unfortunately, there are a lot more NYC slickers than us good, conservative Upstaters.

New York is a State, New York City is a city. Learn the difference. Stop pretending “New York” and “New Yorker” refer to only the that despicable city.

@11 – Yes and no. “New Yorker” can be used to refer to either a resident of the state or of the City. It just depends on context.
In this case, I don’t think the context was ambiguous enough that a resident of the state should feel insulted.
Full disclosure: I lived near Saratoga Springs for about 7 months while I was in the Navy. It’s a beautiful area, and full of very nice people.

Tau Dades, fortunately, in the State of Washington, we don’t have a city named “Washington” and still get to refer derisively to “the other Washington,” the federal cesspool. It’s bad enough to have “Seattle” where even people who migrated there 20 years ago are now disgusted with the city and it’s stupid-ass politics.

He knows his people, NYers will take it.
The last time I thought they might revolt was when they voted for term limits on the mayor and city council but the mayor and city council overturned them.
Then, they reelected the mayor and the city council.

New Yorkian? Spell check doesn’t like it but maybe we’re on to something here.

New York Cityers are the biggest whiners on Earth, and yet they think they are tough as nails.
