Since obama is so enamored by the minimum wage I suggest he and Congress take a pay cut to 9 dollars an hour to pay for the increase. After all “everybody’s got to have skin in the game.”

They already get free wi-fi on their Obama phones and nap rooms in their free section 8 apartments, why would they want to go out and work for an 80% cut in pay? I propose a compromise, lower all welfare ~~benefits~~ handouts to people too lazy and stupid to work to the equivalent of say....minimum wage? While they're at it, lower minimum wage to what it really is, $0.

For my part, I cannot understand how or why The Government gets away with regulating the “supply and demand” economics of many things: In this state at least, if a package store* (i.e. liquor store) wants to sell me some fine liquids made from the produce grown in this or any other country, (hops, barley, corn, rye, sugar-cane…etc.), The Government has set a minimum price at which the store can legally sell the product to me. Is there a minimum selling price on sushi? NO! Any merchant can sell me sushi (at my own risk, I grant you) at ANY price. What’s the difference ? Could it be…. because of the much higher tax rate collected by The Government on liquor? Allowing lower prices would directly affect the revenue collected. In the same Government thinking, the more wages we force, the more taxes we collect !! Winning!!!

(* Package Stores refers to the law which is still “on the books” though mostly ignored, that all liquor purchases must leave the store concealed in packaging, such as a brown bag. Yeah, we are a Blue State…in every sense. )

Arrrrgh! Wrong button! A minimum wage increase does not help anyone, and hurts everyone. It is a starting impetus to cost-push inflation. It is, in fact, a de facto devaluation of the currency It always results in greater unemployment of the young, especially young blacks. Take a look at the unemployment statistics broken down by demographic. Take a look at the unemployment statistics after each minimum wage increase. The increases do not help those who have minimal job skills, in fact, they always hurt that segment of the population.

What is it with these economically illiterate fools? Of course people making minimum wage can’t live on it. They never have and never will be able to live on minimum wage. It doesn’t matter how high the government raises the minimum wage, people making it will not be able to make a living on it. They can raise the minimum wage to $10 or $100 or $1000 or $10000 per hour, people making minimum wage will not be able to live on it BECAUSE ALL OTHER WAGES AND PRICES WILL ALSO RISE

That $9.00/hr will buy less, since the price of all goods and services will go up so that the employers can pay the employees more…So president Obama will have to insist in next years SOTU that we raise the minimum wage to $12.00/hr; which will buy less since…..whew, I’m tired. I’m taking my union mandated break now.
