    Been a fan of Sowell for years. His writing is a little dry, but I’m convinced that he’s the smartest economist alive.

    @1 – I’d put Walter E. Williams in at a close second.

    sowell has come a long way from when he was a marxist, what he describes as “during the decade of my 20’s”. if you haven’t read it yet, give his “Black Rednecks and White Liberals” a try.

    i bet Walter E. Williams doesn’t have this on his resume “… he also trained Marines in .45-caliber pistol proficiency.” (from wikipedia).

    My guess is that Sowell would run away as fast as he could at the thought of being a candidate for President. He does not suffer fools gladly, and is smart enough to know that that is a requirement for being a candidate, or for being President, for that matter.

    @2 – agree entirely about Walter E. Williams.

    I know this is a humor website n’ all, but I gotta say this. The POTUS is the ultimate executive position. Divorcing the job completely from politics for a minute, being an effective executive in charge of the biggest organizational chart in the world requires the world’s best exec-fu. It ain’t an entry level position. Which is why Senators make such lousy Prezs. They ain’t got the exec-fu. It’s not an entry level position and there are lots and lots of little fiefdoms working under you that have their own agendas and goals. Getting them all pulling in the same direction is a skill that can only be learned through a lifetime of working your way up through the executive ranks.

    Thanks for listening.

    If he won’t run for president maybe he would make a good cabinet member
