  1. Actually, there wasn’t a “cool kids table” in my high school (MANY years ago). The really kool kids were too kool to eat in the repressive environment of a school cafeteria. They went to a truly wretched little greasy spoon a couple of blocks away.

In my senior year, I decided to find out what the attraction of the place was. So I went to the little dive for lunch. The staff had evidently cooked all morning to pile up “hamburgers” wrapped in wax paper, about a foot high on a cafeteria tray. You grabbed your hamburger, paid, and ate. The meat was about 1/8″ thick, and absolutely gray. It was the only gray hamburger I ever ate.

    But I was KOOL!
