Say, isn’t that idea just a ripoff of The Dick van Dyke Show?

    Only if it is funny.

Isn’t that what they’ve been doing for like….30 years?

    Apparently not.

Not at all obscure. In fact, I’ve thought for a while that The Dick van Dyke show should be required viewing for anybody born after 1959 or so, so they could compare it with today’s sitcoms to see how much nicer things were fifty years ago. Dick Van Dyke wears a suit. Mary Tyler Moore wears a dress. Neither of them is overweight at all. No character is a couch potato. Quite a difference from many of today’s sitcoms.

Also, the Van Dyke writers were actually funny, rather than borderline abusive and insulting to the cast and the intelligence of the audience…
