Is This Reference Too Obscure?

NBC is launching a national campaign offering aspiring comedy writers from around the country the chance to pitch their sitcom ideas.

Say, isn’t that idea just a ripoff of The Dick van Dyke Show?

  1. Not at all obscure. In fact, I’ve thought for a while that The Dick van Dyke show should be required viewing for anybody born after 1959 or so, so they could compare it with today’s sitcoms to see how much nicer things were fifty years ago. Dick Van Dyke wears a suit. Mary Tyler Moore wears a dress. Neither of them is overweight at all. No character is a couch potato. Quite a difference from many of today’s sitcoms.
