How Am I Doing?

I made changes to my blog templates over the weekend, and now I hear that some in Mozilla (didn’t he fight Mothra?) can’t see the right sidebar. I pretty much exclusively use IE even though I know better, so I’d like to hear if any of the other browsers are having problems displaying my webpage.

  1. Something’s not right with the display in Mozilla…IE looks fine. For whatever reason, the page does not adjust itself the width of my browser on screen. (Mozilla Firefox 0.9.2 1280×1024 screen, browser about 600×1000, Win 2k)
    HTH.

  2. It didn’t look right in Netscape till I swapped out one of the hamsters.
What’s so bad about IE anyway? All I hear about is how lousy it is, but no one ever gives examples.

  3. I am using Firefox, and things look ok to me.
I do have problems with coments in the permalink type display being too long, but I don’t think thats something that can be fixed.
    whats wrong with MS IE?

now, I guess I will find out if raw HTML works in coments around here….

  4. Frank, just download FireFox (its Mozilla’s lightweight browser-only distribution). You can use it to test your site. Its free and relatively small. All of us Linux-users will really appreciate it.
(BTW I’ve chastised you for this before, but its a DAMN SHAME that any CMU graduate doesn’t use Linux… They should consider revoking your degree until you switch!)

  5. Long comment lines with no spaces has always been a problem; I wish I could ban that.
I fixed that long google link (which IE breaks into two lines but maybe other browsers don’t). Can everyone see the right sidebar now?

  6. Don’t know diddly about any of this. I’m, however, having a hell of a time opening the “comments” section. It use to pop up in a separate window when I clicked on it. Now, I have to right mouse click and select “open”. “open in new window” does not work.

  7. Hey, as someone who used to run a big web site, I strongly suggest you install mozilla and opera and use them to check out how your site looks.
The problem is that none of the browsers (and I mean “none”) fully implement the HTML spec but they all implement different parts of it. Things that look slicker than pig snot in Mozilla can be completely disfunctional in IE and vice-versa.

  8. Layout looks fine in NS7.1 on XP (or more accurately Netscape 7.1
    Mozilla/5.0 (Windows; U; Windows NT 5.1; en-US; rv:1.4) Gecko/20030624 Netscape/7.1 (ax) but only if you’re being picky.
Mike is absolutely correct, always check your latest Hawkinsian insight in multiple browsers. The companies seem to go out of their way to make sure something that theirs does well, the other guy’s will screw up, particularly if it is on the edge of the overall specs.
So, to recap: Layout – a-ok.
Now get to work on that content issue…

  9. Until today, and for about the past week, opening your website would crash my browser. I use firefox .91 and have had very few problems, with your site being the exception. I can see the right side-bar, now that your site loads.

  10. Um… I’m using Mozilla Firefox and I can see it just fine.
Also, for the record, that doesn’t make me a linux user. I can’t even mount a drive (although I can Man Woman like a pro). Wow, that sounds bad.

  11. mozilla firefox (this does make me a linux user)
except for loading slowly, the page renders just fine
    Flakbait, “man woman”, ha
but you can’t mount a drive…maybe this will help:

    mount -t blonde -o 34b,24,34 /dev/woman /home/bed/me
