Dick Durbin apologizes… FOR YOU BEING SO STUPID!
No, really. Here’s the statement from his website.
Or maybe I just misread it… SINCE I’M SO STUPID!
I think even resignation isn’t enough at this point. The only way Durbin could redeem himself now is if he were forced to eat his own face.

FIRSTOMUNDO
This guy needs impeachment.
Sorry, I don’t have anything funny to say here. I’m active duty Navy and a veteran of both Gulf Wars. Sen. Durbin’s remarks make me more sad than angry. I could go on and on, but his (deluded)remarks speak for themselves.
Am I first?
Well, I can guess that we’ll be seeing this on the podcast coming out on Monday. The only question is who will handle him?
Gunlord
MDG to bad IL doesnt have anything like that written into it’s laws, the best thing that could happen is Bush put him in prison for sedition…
Eeeew, that’s just nasty.
Is that even possible?
I suppose he could start by devouring his ears and eyes and saving his mouth for last, but it might be tricky to turn his mouth and esophagus outside in and shove them into his stomach.
I’ll have to think about it for a while.
Then again, maybe I don’t want to.
Thor Jr ponders: Is that even possible?
Maybe not, but I think Hannibal Lector once fed somebody part of his brain. Come to think of it, that may not even be possible in Durbin’s case.
I agree with AJ. TRY THAT BUTTPLUG WITH SEDITION NOW!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I tripped over the other day and hurt my toe and I thought to myself “geez! I most certainly believe this is what First World War trench-warfare must be like.”
Nothing new to that, I’ve always called it a “Jane Fonda Apology”. That is to say: I’m really sorry that you’re so unevolved so as to not understand–you see, when I give aid and comfort to the enemy, I’m really helping you!
I’ve read news reports over the years, some very recent, that she has apologized for her actions during the Vietnam era. She has not. No doubt, Durbin will get the same treatment from the legacy media.
So engaging in blatantly subversive and anti-American activities is now akin to using hyperbole? Durbin is not, nor has he ever been, as bad as Jane Fonda was. Use some perspective.
@ Brian:
Yes, you’re first, tho not on this thread. All of our military are first in my book. I should have stayed in myself. Let’s see…. retirement would have been…
oh, about 3 years ago @ 30 years…
looks sadly at lost retirement pay
so it’s up to you young folks to keep us free & safe.
I’d re-enlist if they’d let me & my body would agree. (sigh)
Oasis,
A couple of ways to answer that. One, I do not think Sen. Durbin was engaging in “hyperbole.” He seems to think the treatment of a couple of the detainees at GITMO is literally just as bad as that at Nazi death camps, et al. Two, I was not saying that what Durbin said was as bad as Jane Fonda, I was saying his apology was of the same type. Three, since you bring it up, a case could be made for that. What Jane Fonda was primarily engaged in was propoganda during wartime. What Durbin is engaged in is propoganda during wartime. True, we don’t have riots in the streets as we did during the 60’s, but I think this war in Iraq is every bit as historically momentous. And I think his words, taken in total with the chorus of Democratic politicians, potentially just as damaging as Fonda’s and her fellow travelers. But while a case could be made, I’m not sure Durbin is as bad as Fonda.
But for you to tell me to “get some perspective” in the face of what has become a constant onslaught of Nazi-name-calling from the left-wing in the country is rather absurd.
Paul,
I agree with you, and just as the North Vietnamese used her actions to their advantage, Al Jazera (sp?)wasted no time using Senator Durbin’s comments to their advantage! It’s pretty pathetic when a US Senator provides propaganda for the enemy to use. I believe, this falls into the “giving aid and comfort to the enemy” category.
Righto, Paul. It also occured to me to wonder what is more damaging…lies and anti-American venom from a third rate actress or A US SENATOR?
(Yea, yea, I know she went over there and posed in that pornography with the VC but just wonderin’…)
I guess it’s easy to get people to agree with me here…but what’s more damaging? A future Senator Clinton going over and playing kissy-face with PLO terrorists, as Fonda did before her.
Boycott Illinois
Apparently Newt Gingrich has sent a letter to every senator (wait… there was more than one letter… every senator got their own copy!) calling for Durbin’s censure. I wonder if the Dems will fillibuster that, too.
Y’know, I think Durbin should be fired. …Out of a cannon.
The man must step down, ala Trent Lott … period, end of discussion.
So when I tell you to get percepective, it’s absurd because other liberals don’t? Please explain THAT thinking.
I guess it’s absurd to liken Durbin to Fonda though they both told outright lies about our military to further their own political agenda which aided our enemies in their propoganda then merely said they were sorry WE THE PEOPLE just didn’t get what they were doing/saying in order to save face without really apologizing at all. To ram it home and add insult to injury they try to say what they do and say is FOR THE MILITARY FOLKS and expect us to swallow that pill. Just how stupid do some think we all are?
Oh I get it alright, I get it very well and I know exactly what’s absurd here.
Apparently Dick supports our troops in their mission to defeat the terrorists, but just not to bother the terrorists. Apparently Dick thinks if Americans behave in a saintly, non-violent, inoffensive manner, then the terrorists will simply stop being terrorists and we’ll all live in peace and we can all sing songs together and we can quit our nasty corporate jobs and make table candles and incense.
Hey Dick, here’s a quarter, buy yourself a bus ticket to the real world.
Hey Eric, how come you get to tell him to live in reality when you make up a completely preposterous version of his take on reality? Nicely done; don’t get held to the same standards you hold for others though!
Fonda could never argue that what she was doing was for political popularity, nor that she had the best interest of the troops in mind. She sat on a damn anti-aircraft gun and wished that an American plane would fly by. Durbin said that we’re barbarically torturing prisoners who are still being detained without any official charges. There is a damn difference.
ClayK–Al Jazeera is a pan-Arab station. Comparing Fonda’s rhetoric being used by the North Vietnamese is stupid AND it stereotypes Arabs stupidly.
Oasis,
No, it’s absurd because you are so extremely wrong. I notice you didn’t even try to rebut any of my points, so I guess I’ll continue in the belief that that my perspective is just fine, and the left-wing in this country are the one’s whose perspective is off kilter.
Paul–I suppose I could rebut points. They were pretty ridiculous and didn’t hold much water. After all, what’s the good propaganda versus the bad? We’re fed bullshit lines from the Bush administration about good versus evil all the time, especially going so far as to call three dissimilar political entities an Axis of Evil. That’s propaganda. It’s an inevitable trait of war. It happens. You have established yourself pretty much against it, but you fail to recognize that it is employed by both sides.
And it’s pretty obvious that Durbin was engaging in hyperbole. Note how he didn’t that that we WERE Nazis, but said that the actions could have come from Nazi Germany. He engages the comparison so as to illustrate how we’ve gone far astray from simple liberation, and moved on to violating human rights to ensure our supposed security.
I’m sorry that I missed your post. I know that failing to read something is akin to having no argument, at least in your petty and simple mind.
Hey Ms. Oasis, here’s another quarter, please take the bus to civility. Away from BlindHateVille. LOL
Oasis,
You said:
“ClayK–Al Jazeera is a pan-Arab station. Comparing Fonda’s rhetoric being used by the North Vietnamese is stupid AND it stereotypes Arabs stupidly.”
Is this how you make your point, logically? I see how it is. Just continously call the other person’s point stupid. First, take a look at where the terrorist are coming from/who they are. I’ll fill you in, they’re Arabs. Second, the composition of Al Quaeda isn’t just Saudi Arabian Arabs. Third, Al Jazeera being a pan-Arabic station makes it a perfect propaganda machine. Or are you confused about what there position is and has been through out this war on terrorism?
You said [to Paul]:
“I’m sorry that I missed your post. I know that failing to read something is akin to having no argument, at least in your petty and simple mind.”
That’s hypocritical of you. After all, in your “petty and simple mind” not presenting an argument kind of mm…well, makes your point. At least that’s what you told me in an earlier comments section.
Talk about getting some perspective.
Eric,
I agree with you. Hey, I’ll even pitch in another quarter so maybe he can take a friend with him.
I like this quarters business. Could start a new campaign like “Quarters for Quitters” since they’ve quit reality!
The “apology” of Prick durbin is an insult ot all patriotic Americans. Why is Dr. Frist not calling for a censure vote?
Oasis,
You did not miss my post, you responded with a non-answer.
As for ‘hyperbole’, since you admit he Durbin said the actions could’ve come from Nazis, I suggest you acquaint yourself with a dictionary.
As for all the gratuitous name calling, that suggests to me that you’re insecure and know that you’re on shaky ground.
But that’s ok, the more the extreme left wing in this country takes over the Democratic party, the more they ensure Republican victories in the next election. So keep up the name calling!
As for the other points you bring up, this is getting too diverse and involved, and you’re frankly not important enough to spend time on.
I must be giddy because that last sentence just gives me fits of giggles!!
To whom did they compare dictators who tortured people prior to 1940?
Really, I gotta know….
Don’t knock all of us Illinoisans (is that even a word???) As an active duty AF member and resident of Illinois, I wish to offer my heartfelt apologies. I voted against this putz that is currently one of my Senator’s, to no avail. When Chicago and East St Louis vote, all of the people in the farm communities got killed.
Once again, I apologize for burdening the rest of the country with this twit who seems to think that non-apologies will suffice, as if to point out our lack of nuance makes it all right. Come to think of it, the left was all for pointing out that lack of nuance was why we didn’t get Kerry…seems to me that we got him just fine…
A friend of mine (upon seeing me going into a homicidal fury over durbin’s comments) pointed out that this is EXACTLY the kind of thing that we conservatives should hope for out of the libs.
The more these *sshats show their true feelings about our soldiers (and America in general) to the world, the more quickly they will be voted into extinction. So, I say: let them spew their vemon without apologizing for it. In 06 and 08 we will get the last laugh! 😀
Er, that should be ‘venom’. Sorry.
Yet another in-your-face example of how Republicans are indeed the party of tolerance – I just finished reading everyone’s thoughtful and patient replies to “Oasis” and am in awe of everyone’s restraint. Why, oh why, do we continue to even discuss things with these hate-filled, illogical arguing, childish trolls? I see it on blogs everywhere and it amazes me. Anyway. Bravo, ya’ll. (please don’t take this as sarcasm – I’m being serious here!) I work with a couple of tinfoil hat-wearers and I just shake my head and say “go talk to someone who shares your warped view of life” and walk away. I have absolutely no tolerance for it. None.
Please send Dickie D an email and tell him what a MORON he is…Please!!! I did and it felt great!!!
Don’t be silly MichNeoCon! You’ve just displayed (what is commonly known as) ‘tolerance’ by writing a rational paragraph, with minimal ranting. If you call shaking your head and walking away a rant. But you know, talking to the lunatic fringe can be fun; they say such amusing things. Where do you think FrankJ gets his material to keep this website going?
