i don’t wanna bag on them…

since we are a part of them… but wow. Pajamas Media changed its name to Open Source Media.
the only more retarded name they could have come up with would be Less Traveled Stream Media.
what else could they have come up with that would have been more retarded? (btw, i mean retarded stupid, not retarded handicapped. because it’s not funny to make fun of handicapped people. only jerkfaces do that.)
UPDATE: AN OUT!! apparently, the name Open Source Media is already taken (thanks John Hawkins Who Never Votes for Me for the link)! here’s your chance to change the name to something not stupid and boring! it’s a legal issue! kinda like that Presidential documents thingy got the President out of the Miers debacle. oops, we changed the name to one that was already taken! guess we’ll have to make it something else. personally, i liked PJs Media and didn’t think they needed to change the name to something generic and indescript.

  1. Hey sarahk, I’m a cripple & I make fun of other cripples. Like this joke:
A guy with no arms walks into a bar the bartender says ” Sorry Billy I can’t serve you, you just can’t hold your liquor.”
Does that make me a jerkface for making fun of cripple folk?
wish you and yours all the best

  2. GPL can be viewed as “communistic” in the sense that whatever program is licensed under that is required to be given out free of charge.
BSD license is a little bit different, Apple bases their operating system after FreeBSD (a variant of the original *NIX operating system developed in the 1970s.) BSD states that they give out free, open-source operating system, anybody can edit it redistribute and actually not have to distribute that code for free and open-source. That is why BSD>Linux.
Open source isn’t communistic, open source is good as long as it is implemented the right way, and right now it seems to be BSD>.
If what I said flew over your heads:
    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/GNU_General_Public_License

As a side note BSD is not really being developed by UC Berkeley anymore (it was thought like ~2 decades ago)

  3. Speaking of treating handicapped people right:
That’s why an organization heckled Jerry Lewis off the stage during a speech in Chicago last night. Because they say he “makes people pity disabled people” and think less of them. Because screaming and swearing and ruining an evening that many parents brought their kids to makes disabled people look so much better, doesn’t it?

Actually, you’re only required to give the source code away for free. You can charge as much as you want for the program.

  5. Actually, you’re only required to give the source code away for free. You can charge as much as you want for the program.
…you do realize that it’s the whole problem, don’t you? Giving away the source code is giving away the soul of the program for everyone and their mother to copy and reuse at their will.
And please, saying that the license somehow magically covers the theft is as dumb as saying that the existance of the police automatically prevents crime from happening.

    So’s communism, they keep saying.
Please name one communistic country that’s implemented “the right way”.
They ALL fail eventually, and so does open source.
OS software, by the way, isn’t making big breaches into the market (the pompously advertised FireFox, among the most successfull OS applications, hasn’t broken 10% of the market… Microsoft must be sick worried! /sarcasm), by the way.
Mostly because it does not understand the rules of the market. At all. Something that’s free is worth nothing.
Rule #1 of the free market.
(waiting for some whinuxers to make asses of themselves saying that open source is “about to take over”… sort of how communism was “about to take over” the world between the 50s and the 80s.)
I still hope OSM will change the meaning of open source to something less offensive to the free market.

  6. DEAR COWARD WITH NO EMAIL ADDRESS AKA KEVIN,
I’VE BEEN BLOGGING ALMOST TWO YEARS AND CAN CAPITALIZE OR NOT CAPITALIZE LETTERS AS I CHOOSE. IF I WANT YOU TO THINK I’M CUTE, I’LL LET YOU KNOW. I KNOW THE FREAKIN RULES OF CAPITALIZATION BETTER THAN YOU KNOW THE RULES OF PUNCTUATION (YOUR “CUTE” SENTENCE SHOULD BE PUNCTUATED AT THE END — HOPE THIS HELPS.). I GOT A 4 ON THE AP ENGLISH EXAM & DID QUITE FINE ON THE VERBAL SATS. I THOUGHT OF MAJORING IN ENGLISH AND COULD HAVE IF I WANTED TO BEAR THE LIBERAL PROFESSORS.
    REGARDS.

  7. I’m not a coward, I just don’t put an email address down because I don’t want spam.
While I can’t entirely disagree with the post, it is written in poor taste and is just mean. A friend wrote the comment from my computer after he and I had a short discussion about not capitalizing the perpendicular pronoun. I was not aware of it until just now when he emailed me about your reply. He thinks it’s funny, but I do not.
I apologize for allowing that tasteless post to come from my computer, and would be grateful if you would delete it. If he wants to put it back up, he can do it under his own name.
I wonder if he made me look bad on any other websites? 🙁
