An undercover police sting turned into an officer-involved shooting in the Houston Police Department’s impound lot, officials told KPRC Local 2.
HPD’s auto theft division set up undercover surveillance at the lot located on Dart at Houston Avenue near downtown Houston because there have been a lot of car burglaries recently.
At about 12:30 a.m. Thursday, the thief tried to strike again, police said. He was found hiding in a trailer on the lot, according to authorities.
“Another uniformed officer approached that trailer, opened it and the individual who was inside aggressively rushed at the officer with a tire iron in his hand,” said Sgt. David Crain with the Houston Police Department.
The officer, a 28-year veteran of the force, shot the suspect several times, fearing for his life, police said.
Keep an eye on IMAO for futher “Gun vs.” updates.
How many times would “several” be?
I mean, I could understand a double-tap, but more than that seems a bit excessive.

Anything more than reloading the pistol is excessive. Reloading might get you in trouble with some fringe wacko group. That’s why I always pistol-whip the guy instead of reloading. Sure, I have to replace the pistol grip every once in awhile, but it’s better than going to prison. I’m too pretty to go to jail.
All car burglars should be shot “several” times! I don’t know why that would be a problem to you…
Maybe if you’ve had a car stolen, you’d think different
my mom taught me to
never bring a knife
(or tire iron)
to a gunfight.
Redneck,
As Frank always says, don’t pistol whip ’em…it marrs the finish. That’s why you carry a Marine Kbar as a back-up.
Police-100, dumb criminals-0
I’ve heard that it’s dumb to bring a knife to a gun fight, but a tire iron? Sheesh!
it just validates a old saying a friend of mine recites, “You can’t rape a .38″…
But if it was al-Zarqawi and his boys, the tire iron would have won….
Good point, Master Shake.
And knives are valuable when you run out of ammo, you know. They’re also useful when battling Goa’uld system lords that have personal shields that only protect against high-velocity items such as bullets and energy blasts.
Knife 1, Gun ?
Three college students fatally wound a gunman who broke into their home. Sometimes bringing a knife to a gunfight works.
Knife
Social Darwinism in action……
Like the scene from Raiders of the Lost Ark.
Note that knifes are far more useful for upclose, quiet work, and are not bad from a distance if you know how to throw well.
Guns are great for defense, but tend to run out of ammo, make a lot of noise, and arouse a lot of attention.
They also give an unearned, dangerous sense of invulnerability to fools: of course, that plays into the Darwin Awards, which is probably a good thing.
“I mean, I could understand a double-tap, but more than that seems a bit excessive.”
Well, all the training I have had says shoot until the threat stops trying to hurt you. That may mean one round, it may mean 12 or 13. The point is, when you are fighting to stay alive, there is no such thing as “excessive”.
