SarahK has a new blog called Prepare to Dye! She does this Stampin’ Up! thing now where she makes cards and scrapbooks and always shows me the cards, and I have to say they’re pretty, or she hits me.
So please go visit her blog and tell her that her cards are pretty so I don’t have to.

oh no….I used to know a bunch of people that were involved in Stampin’ Up and scrapbooking. All I can say is RUN!!!!
It’s like a cult. Imagine if someone were to be able to organize and capitalize on the nerddom of trekkies…it’s like the scam factor of MLM meets the cult factor of star trek nerds or Scientology!

I used to work with a woman who was into scrap-booking and took it out on the rest of us by creating elaborate, detailed, personalized birthday/vacation/get well/ retirement/etc. cards. Of course, they took a long time to make and she didn’t know everybody’s significant dates, so inevitably some poor shlub would get the 99-cent cheapie card from the 7-11 down the street within a day of someone’s getting a mini-masterpiece of cutesy crafting. Awkward. And no-one wanted to throw away one of the Special cards, or even take it off of one’s desk after months had passed, because – damn, a lot of work went into that, gotta show some appreciation. She never hit us for not praising her enough, though.
I have a scrapbook. It’s in the shape of a round metal container and I manually archive it once a week.

I see one of the cards made with a stamp that say’s “You’re the Best”. So is that stamp used only once then thrown away? I’d hate to think the sentiment was insincere.

You’re a hotshot programmer. Set up a bot to send SarahK an e-mail every morning telling her how pretty her cards and scrapbooks are. Then you won’t have to do any work to tell her and we won’t have to visit a site devoted to cards and scrapbooks.

My condolences, Frank. I have a friend who does this. It DOES seem to be like a cult, which would be fine with me except I keep getting these beautiful cards that I don’t want to keep but feel bad throwing away. Exactly like the kid’s art projects and whatnot from school, and I had 4 kids.
I have learned to be brutal. I also burn a lot of stuff. It’s fun but must be done in secret. If you ever need a place to burn some stuff, just sing out. Know you are not alone.
