Technically, I don’t think his explanation of why diamonds are not created from coal explained anything… He says diamonds have been excavated for longer than coal has, and thus — non sequitur — “I don’t think I have to say anything more to show that diamonds ard not made from coal.” What?
The actual truth is that the Earth is full of diamonds and that, other than their industrial uses, they’re just pretty little sparkly rocks that people overvalue. I’d rather have coal that I can burn.
According to a documentary I saw a few years ago, (The Core) there are diamonds the size of Manhattan down in the Mantle. (Also Really big amethyst geodes).
It looked dangerous – I suspect that geologist killed off all the other guys in the crew so he could have some “alone time” with that pretty astronaut babe.
