  1. Train in Vain is in my top 20 of favorite songs.

I never saw the Clash. I did see Mick Jones with his band Big Audio Dynamite when they were touring with Public Image Limited. They didn’t play any Clash songs. At least I don’t think they did.

It was literally so loud that I couldn’t hear anything. Kind of bummed about that.

PIL wasn’t so loud. But their set includes the second best concert moment of my life. I threw my shoe at Johnny Rotten and he picked it up and sneered at it.

He threw it off the stage and a security guard gave it to me at the end of the night. I wish I still knew where that shoe was.

  2. I never got into The Clash.* “Rock the Casbah” was okay. I was probably a couple years too young to get them. Perhaps I should give them another try since I am gray.

*Go figure though since I did like The Dictators. (Bloodbrothers is the only album I’ve owned on vinyl, 8-track, cassette, CD and mp3.)

  3. Thanks a bunch for that Walrus. For those who don’t much like the punk rock era Clash Joe Strummer later made some great music before he died. Try listening to Mega Bottle Ride, Long Shadow, Nitcomb, Yalla Yalla, or his cover of Redemption Song. He was all over the map stylistically, and lyrically, but those are pretty much rock and roll at his best.
