If you could rename yourself, what name would you pick?

Ironically, most people think my name is already a fake, made-up, internet nom de plume that I use to rename myself.

I mean, “Harvey”? People stopped using that name the day Jimmy Stewart made it a synonym for a drunk’s hallucination.

Have you ever completed anything on your “bucket list”?

Well, I was stationed in Alameda CA back in the 80’s and spent a lot of time doing touristy stuff in San Francisco. 20 or so years later, I went back to see how it had changed. Short answer: not enough to be unrecognizable.

Also, the street performer I took a picture of in the 80s while he was juggling torches while standing on a slack rope, was STILL working Pier 39, juggling torches while standing on a slack rope.

I’m thinking no, since if I’ve heard of them, that means they’re famous, and I wouldn’t want to be famous because having fans is annoying.

Either that, or the guy in charge of bacon R&D at Oscar Mayer.

Have you ever met your idol or someone you revere greatly?

Worked for Fred Thompson for a while. He was a classy, thoughtful guy with a great sense of humor. My favorite experiences were those rare times when I made him laugh out loud on the air after he read something I wrote. Oddly, I never talked to him on the phone, but we exchanged emails regularly.

I also got to work for Dennis Miller. He… is not a people person by nature. On the other hand, I’ve never known anyone with more sincere respect for those who choose to wear America’s military uniforms.

And if I’m going that direction, then also Rollie Fingers and John Bolton.

What’s your favorite place of all the places you’ve traveled?

I’ve seen things you people wouldn’t believe. Attack ships on fire off the shoulder of Orion. I watched C-beams glitter in the dark near the Tannhäuser Gate. All those moments will be lost in time, like tears in rain.

Christmas in Singapore was pretty cool, too. All the stores decorated for it, but its not really a native holiday. It added a strange flavor to a familiar event.
