BIDEN: …so it’s so great to be here in Ohio. Let me hear ya! O.I! O.I! That’s right. God love ya. My, my. Well, at this point I practically feel like I know all of you. I’ve been criss-crossing your beautiful state now for the past several weeks. I think I’ve been to every city in Ohio, from one end of the state to the other, from Cincinnati all the way to Dayton and every town in between. But, we’re here because you folks will play a crucial part in deciding whether or not Barack and I will have four more years to keep instituting the kind of sound, progressive policies that have been moving this country forward, like our work on gay rights. Ya know, last week I met one of your neighbors; a good man named Charles Brown. And he told me, “Joe, my wife Lucy and I are hoping with all our hearts that you and Barack get re-elected. The other day we were walking on the beach, not far from our home in Columbus. And, as we looked out over the ocean we saw a rainbow, and it reminded us of how much you and Barack have done to help gay Americans. Don’t let these guys win, Joe. Don’t let these Republicans put people in prisons just for being gay.” And that’s the kind of thing they’ll do, folks. The Republicans will put gay people in prison. But, with your help we can win. With your help we can make sure that your gay friends and neighbors don’t have to just bend over and take it. We can win this election and continue our fight for gay rights…

BIDEN: …so, it’s great to be here in Dayton. Look, we’ve only got a few days left until the election folks, and I’m here to try to make you forget about Barack’s bayonet comment. What? Oh, my God, I wasn’t supposed to say that. Okay, forget about that. Just forget about that. Folks, it doesn’t matter. What matters is, this is an election about the future of this country. Do you really want four more years of failed policies? Do you want four more years of Mitt Romney, or is it time for a fresh, new president by the name of Barack Obama? Isn’t it time we get someone new in there to bring hope and change back to this country? And, that’s exactly what Barack Obama and I are going to do if you give us the chance. Because, this time we’re not gonna let the Republicans steal the election like they did in 2008! We’re not, folks! And, what did we get? The last four years have been devastating! Absolutely devastating, folks! This horrible healthcare law… unemployment through the roof. This time we’re not gonna allow them to throw out the hanging chads, like they did in ’08 when Mitt Romney stole that election. This time we’re… what? Well, OK but I thought I had ten more minutes. OK folks, suddenly they’re telling me I have to wrap it up…

BIDEN: …I was watching the debate last night, and… hey, didn’t President Obama do great? He sure did, didn’t he? I sure loved the part where he schooled Mitt Romney on how our military operates these days. See, Mitt Romney doesn’t realize that it’s not the ’40s anymore. This isn’t the military of World War II. We have technology that the Governor just doesn’t understand. Back in 1982, I sat in a briefing with one of our great generals, General Khan Noonien Singh. There were just four of us in that room when General Singh showed us a new weapon under development called the Genesis Device. And, after his presentation the General said, “Joe, buddy I need your help. This weapon will help modernize our military, and you’re the guy that can make sure we move ahead with this. People respect you.” And I said, “General, I’ll make damn sure that we have this weapon in our arsenal to help keep our country safe!” And I did. I went to President Reagan and demanded that this weapon go into development. And the military got to work at our Ceti Alpha Five facility, and within a year a prototype of that device was onboard the USS Reliant. So, see these are the types of things Mitt Romney doesn’t understand…

BIDEN: …but folks, you know if Mitt Romney became president he would put women in binders. And, I don’t know if you’ve ever seen a binder, but I know I wouldn’t want to be put in one. My good friend Ted Kennedy, God bless ‘im, he took me into his office one time and he had these binders he showed me that women used to be put in, and it was frightening. Frightening! And, that’s what they want to do to you. They want to put you in binders. And, they want to repeal Lilly Bedwetter. One of the first things Barack did when he got into office was pass Lilly Bedwetter, a law to help women in this country. Because women have special health issues that men don’t have, and no one cares more about helping women in America and around the world than my boss, Barack Obama. And, Mitt Romney wants to repeal that law. He wants women doing laundry and having to clean those soiled sheets every day…

BIDEN: …the other day when we were out campaigning in Mississippi, I met a man named Leeroy Jenkins… a wonderful African-American gentleman, who had been a slave back in the 1800’s. What a great guy. And, he said to me, he said, “Joe, these young kids today don’t realize what it was like… they don’t realize what slavery was like back then.” He said, “We didn’t have iPhones and iPods, whatever you call ’em… we didn’t have them back then. They didn’t buy us Nike sneakers and flat screen TVs and things like that. No, in the cabin I lived in we had one little black-and-white TV for all 12 of us… the screen couldn’t have been more than 10 or 11 inches wide. And we all had to huddle around that screen, and every week we’d have to wait for The Cosby Show or The Jeffersons, one of the few African-American programs on TV back then, ’cause there weren’t many African-Americans allowed on TV in the 1800’s.” He said, “Those Republicans wanna take us back to those days and put us back in that cabin with that 11-inch TV. But, you and Barack… you guys have given us so much more. Thanks to you and Barack we have programs where you provide us cell phones and flat screens and Nikes. You guys take so much better care of us today…”

BIDEN: …ya know folks, it’s been a tough battle but we’re winning. Don’t believe these silly polls, we’re winning! And we’ve had some obstacles to overcome. Ya know, it’s no secret that in these debates the moderators are working against us. They are. You all know it. You see it. When you have to debate not just your opponent, but also a conservative moderator it’s tough. But, you saw how Barack and I have handled it. We’ve creamed ’em, despite the deck being stacked against us every time. When they ask a question and you’ve got no good answer, they don’t help you out. When a Republican starts to answer the question they help them out; they cut them right off. But, when I was asked questions in my debate or Barack was asked questions in his two debates so far, did you see the moderators helping us out, cutting us off? No, they just sat there and we had to fill that time with some nonsensical answer, when everybody knows we can’t be expected to come up with answers to these kinds of ridiculous questions…

BIDEN: …Ya know, there’s so much talk from these Republicans… it started with Sarah Palin, then this Paul Ryan and some of the others. I keep hearing them talk about these so-called “death panels.” And, I don’t know where they get these things. It’s ridiculous. And, you keep hearing about them and, just like everything else the Republicans have it all backwards…there are no death panels! Listen to what I say here: There are no death panels! No one is going to be deciding who dies. In fact, it’s just the opposite. These panels that Barack is putting together are LIFE panels. They’re not going to decide who dies, they’re going to decide who lives! They’re going to help keep people alive, for God’s sake. So the next time you hear someone talk about this death panel nonsense, you tell them, those aren’t death panels man, they’re life panels…

BIDEN: …and folks, I wanna tell ya, these folks on the other side are getting desperate. Did you happen to see the vice-presidential debate? That’s right, we creamed them. We creamed them. I almost felt sorry for poor Paul Ryan. But, that night you saw the difference between our two sides. It was right there for everyone to see. Paul Ryan wanted to sit there and talk about facts all night. He wanted to go on and on about the economy and Medicare… that’s all they’ve got, boring facts. Meanwhile, I hit ’em where it hurt. The fact that Romney made a speech where he mentioned that 47 percent of Americans get free stuff from the government, so they probably won’t vote for him. ‘Cause he wants to stop giving out free stuff! It’s true! So, the difference between our two campaigns couldn’t be more clear. Now, who wants candy?

BIDEN: …but there are some folks on the other side that want to cut off funding to PBS. PBS! Apparently, they have a problem with Big Bird. I’m serious. I’m serious folks. These folks are upset because a few million dollars goes to help fund Sesame Street. Such a worthwhile program. Tax dollars well spent, I’ll tell ya. Well, I know a lot of families that love Big Bird, whose kids learned to read and write, in part, from watching Big Bird. So, when Romney cuts funding to PBS, Big Bird will go away. He’ll go away folks. How else are they going to get the money to produce these great programs? How? I mean, c’mon man, how much can they possibly make by selling some clothing, and toys, and making movies? These shows cost thousands of dollars to produce. A business like that can’t survive without help from the government… everybody knows that. But, apparently not these Republicans. They think that somehow a show like Sesame Street or Barney the Dinosaur can make enough money just by selling merchandise to keep on going. Apparently, they just don’t understand how businesses work…

BIDEN: …ya know, I met a man in Columbus, Ohio name Tom Gifford. And, Tom’s been out of work for almost four years now. Four years! And, he’s fallen off unemployment, doesn’t know how he’s going to pay any of his bills… or feed his kids. And God bless him, he came up to me with tears in his eyes… tears in his eyes… and he said, “Joe, I’m countin’ on ya buddy. I’m countin’ on you and Barack to turn things around. And there’s only one way to do that. There’s only one way that I can pay my bills. Joe, you need to increase the tax rate to 60 percent on those Americans in the top one percent. If you do that, I’ll be able to get a job, pay my bills, feed my kids… Joe, buddy, I’m counting on ya.” And, I’ll tell you today what I told him that day. I won’t let you down, Tom. Barack Obama won’t let you down. We’ll increase the tax rate on those fat cats so that you can pay your bills…

BIDEN: and what background does Paul Ryan have to do this job? What has he done? How can we trust this guy to not screw up? I’ve been in politics for most of my adult life. It’s not easy. I’ve overseen things in those years that you wouldn’t believe. That’s what we do. I could tell you things… for example, I could tell you how some of our special forces are currently on the ground deep inside Jordan. I could tell you about the covert operation currently underway in Iran… people working undercover at their biggest nuclear plant. Some of the things we’re doing in Russia that no one knows about… but, if any of these things were to get out it could spell big trouble, put people’s lives at risk, cause a potential war between our countries. So, how do you trust someone with this kind of information? What if he were to go out and run his mouth and talk about some of these things going on? It could be a disaster…

BIDEN: …and so, now the Republicans are trying to make a big deal about the fact that Barack attended Martha Raddatz’s wedding. This is seriously what they’re talking about folks. This is what they’re actually talking about. With all the problems this country has after the last four years, they’re talking about a wedding that Barack attended back in 1991. My God, that was 30 years ago! And, let me tell ya something. I know Martha Raddatz. I know her very well. Jill and I have been to dinner at her house many times. My wife has gone on vacations with her, and girls’ nights out. She stays with us when she’s in town. So, I know her very, very well, and I can tell you that there’s not a biased bone in her body. I know that my friend Martha Raddatz will do a great job moderating my debate…

BIDEN: …but these guys on the other side aren’t nice guys. They actually hate the earth. Every time we try to develop new green energy, these guys are outraged. I just don’t get it. So, here we are trying to harness natural energy… trying to find completely natural sources of energy to power your cars and heat your homes, and the Republicans are doing everything they can to stand in our way. Folks, I’ve heard that there is a completely natural source of energy – a liquid found in the ground. And it’s completely natural. All we have to do is drill for it. And this liquid will power your cars, heat your home… do everything we need… and we can drill for it right here in our own country. It’s affordable. We have green companies willing to drill and get it, yet we’re not doing it. We’re not doing it! I mean, what’s wrong with Republicans?…

BIDEN: …and you’ve probably heard them. They’re out there saying that we want to repeal the middle-class tax cut. And, ya know something? Let me tell y’all something. We do! We sure do! And we will repeal that middle-class tax cut… George W Bush’s middle-class tax cut. Because it’s time that the top one percent in this country start paying their fair share. It’s time that those fat cats that are doing so well on Wall Street start paying more into the system, and the way we do that is to repeal their middle-class tax cut…

BIDEN: …I mean, I don’t know how they stoop as low as they do. Honestly, I don’t. There’s a video that’s been making the rounds of a lovely lady, who shares with this reporter from somewhere how she appreciates her cell phone… it’s a phone she received as part of a fantastic program that Barack Obama’s been doing such a great job with. So, this lovely lady simply says how much she appreciates being able to take part in the program… and she’s a lovely African-American woman. Here she is at a rally, and she’s articulate, and bright, and clean, and for no reason at all Republicans are making fun of her. I’ve never seen anything like it. Just blatant racism…
