Sunday Night Open Thread

Yes, it’s still an Open Thread. That usually means fun discussions, silly jokes, and a general good time.

Beth Cleaver is on my mind, though. She lost her latest battle with cancer yesterday. Some of you may remember her old blog, “My Vast Right Wing Conspiracy.” Some of you may have followed her when she moved to The Facebook. Of course, some of you may never have followed her at all.

Briefly, and quite insufficiently, she was a loving mother, an Air Force veteran, and a patriot. Each of those is more than many people ever are or were. She was all that and much more.

Yes, it’s Open Thread. And yes, that’s usually happy stuff. So let’s keep it happy. If you knew or followed Beth, and you have some fun or funny stories to share, please do. Try keeping it PG-13, as she had a mouth on her.

If you didn’t, but have a fun story to share about a friend you’ve lost, please do.

And, of course, if you just want to have some other fun, feel free. We could all use a laugh right about now.

So, who wants to start?

    • I remember a joke Mule Deer told about an old man and his wife out walking, when a seagull flies by and poops on the man’s head. His wife says, “Need some toilet paper?” He says, “Nah, that bird’s miles away by now.”

  1. An Irishman goes into a bar in New York and orders 3 beers. The bartender sets down the beers figuring the guy is going to join some people at a table. Instead the fellow sits there and drinks all 3 one after the other. The guy come in several more times and does the same thing. Finally the bartender asks why. The man says “Well now, one is for meself and one is for me brother in Australia and one is for me brother back in Ireland. You see, the last time were were all together we made an agreement that every night when we had a beer we’d have one for each brother as well to remember each other by.”

The man became a regular at the bar and whenever he walked in the door the bartender would automatically set him up with 3 beers. This went on for years until one day he came in, the bartender set down 3 beers and the man said “Thank you, Joe – but from now on I’ll only need 2 beers.” The bartender said “Aw, I’m awfully sorry to hear that, Pat. So one of you brothers died then?” The Irishman replies “Oh no, Lord bless ’em, me brothers is just fine. But I have quit drinking!”

  2. Guy walks into a bar and asks the bartender for a Whiskey. After setting him up the guy drinks the shot, looks into his shirt pocket and asks for another. The bartender sets him up again and again the guy downs the shot, looks into his shirt pocket and asks for another. This happens five times so finally the bartender asks, “Why do you take a shot and then look into your pocket?” The guy replies, “I got a picture of my wife in there, as soon as she starts looking good I go home.”
