            • no. Jews are not really a race, it’s a culture/religion, much like Catholicism.

Sammy Davis Jr. and other people that weren’t born Jewish have become Jewish. I have yet to see someone convert to Asianism. (Sean Connery and Peter Sellers nowithstanding)

The idea of Jews as a race is a product of European antisemitism of about 200 years ago. Remember Christians started as “Jews” so how would that work?

              • Evolution.

Seriously though, while not a race centuries of only being allowed to reproduce within a specific community can cause differentiation enough to be considered separate. Yes that is not entirely true enough to consider a generic “Jew” a separate race you do have things like Sephardi Jews and Ashkenazi Jews to account for.

                • There are Jews of different races. There are also Ethiopian Jews. Ashkenazi and Sephardic Jews come from different regions and they have more in common with the local population than they do with each other genetically.

For that matter are Caucasians living in remote Alaskan villages where there’s a lot of inter-marriage a distinct race?

Are Mormons and Catholics separate races? Scientologists? If you convert to Judaism does your genetic makeup change? According to European thinking (adopted most famously by Adolph Hitler), the children of someone who converted to Judaism are members of the Jewish race. There is more genetic variability between Jews (as you have pointed out) than there is between Caucasians living in Norway and Caucasians living in France.

I think you could argue that there are Jewish Communities, certainly, but a race?

Seeing Jews as a race is a product of centuries of antisemitism.
