I hope you people are just pro Russian because of the old: “the enemy of my enemy is my friend”, which I can sort of understand when you were a Trump supporter and heard a lot about Putin/Russia linked to him. While I don’t want to get into that, it’s peanuts anyway compared with larger atrocious committed by Putin. But In the last two years of his term, you saw more and more: I’d rather be Russian than Democrat”. While funny, I think you might want to reconsider your life when you’d actually swap.
Living in Europe and seen his actions for 20+ years up close, it’s really kind of messed up he gets this support. Every country surrounding them are constant aware they could be next, even prior his latest invasion. It’s also not up to him to dictate what democratic countries should join or not. Seriously, NATO never attacked him in all his wars, they get blame for not doing it NOW, go figure, yet we are the aggressors.
I feel sorry for the Russian people, but that country is going to be bankrupt to a point it takes 20 year to recover to the current wealth (which isn’t that high when you adjust the GDP minus the people owning tens of billions, if not hundreds of billion Dollar. Nice salary, President of Russia. It’s everything combined, him making/creating a sporting atmosphere that winning at all cost is important for the ‘pride of the nation’. Remember they even went as far as sneaking in a lab at night to change urine. It might seem like a non issue, it’s yet another red flag.
People forget that it was just half a year ago that Lukashenko (dictator Belarus) had a false bomb threat made to an aircraft flying above their airspace, it landed right away and one of his political opponents/activist was arrested and is now either dead or tortured 24/7. When the EU put yet again sanctions on that country, Putin met with him and they riled up immigrants in their country and pushed them (sometimes with warning shots) to the Polish border to destabilize the EU.
The times Russian fighter jets or naval vessel cross or pass European airspace, with them having their signaling off, no announcement that they would do that…leading to several countries reacting and forcing them out. This will go wrong badly very soon. We also had loaded Russian bombers flying above our heads. I could go on for hours on every single aspect of why Putin a criminal, dictator and most of all mass murderer. Aside from casualties (civilians like now) in his wars, the amount of politicians, journalists, oligarchs not wanting to give him half their money, he has killed will probably in the hundreds alone already. And he kills them in sovereign countries like England, Germany etc. We are fed up with him. Believe me. Many people say so.
And as a Dutch person, can you help count the hearses when the first batch! (5 total) landed on Dutch soil to be transferred to an identification site and got some respect and dignity back after laying in the boiling sun on a Ukrainian farm field for six days before Putin finally gave the order for a seize fire to have us recover the bodies of whole families (it was holiday flight mainly from Amsterdam to Malaysia). It’s still a big story here since 2014 because of investigations, prosecutions, remembrance days etc. and whenever I hear relatives speak going to every court case, they know Putin will never own it up. Always blaming others. But they want him to stop with his lying, it’s infuriating them. They don’t blame, or want long prison sentences for the the people who pressed the button, it was an accident as we could hear by telephone/radio conversation. They want the people given the orders to face consequences.
