Our New Favorite Democrat?

So the woman who will be replacing Hillary in the Senate (and taking the seat from Princess Caroline) has a 100% voting record with the NRA, voted against the $700 billion bailout, and is for securing the border and against amnesty. That’s better than most Republicans these days. I didn’t even know they made Democrats like that in New York. If she really starts to annoy the liberals, I shall rename her “Liebergirl”.

  1. This clearly can’t stand! The Democratic Party will not tolerate someone of such low standards as this woman! They must replace her with a tax cheating, illegal nanny hiring, friend of a terrorist, black lesbian community organizer. That will pass the Senate – unopposed…including the Republicans!

  2. There’s something wrong with this scenario…Democrats are just throwing a bone, I’ll bet. (See, look how inclusive we are…you nasty ‘ol conservatives)

And I really was trying not to be so cynical and negative and disgusted with the left and their machinations..

One Two Three: HOPE AND CHANGE!!! YES, WE CAN!!!

(I guess it didn’t take, because now I want to know, ‘change’ what?…’can’ what?)

Okay, I’ll go lay down until it passes.

  3. Hmmm… So why is she a dumocrat? What are her stances on other issues? Perhaps she had to run as a dumocrat to get elected. I know that if I ever wanted to run and win an election in my liberal college town that I’d have to put a (d) after my name.

  4. One of Gillibrand’s detractors is a typical libtard (her thought processes are diametrically opposite to common sense):

“Others in the field, led by more senior politicians, including Rep. Carolyn McCarthy, D-Long Island, criticized Gillibrand, saying the upstate lawmaker’s support of more conservative issues such as gun ownership rights was out of step with most New York Democrats.” [Yeah, all of you sheep just try to understand the criminal’s rage, blame society and use diplomacy to stop these crimes in progress.]

“‘I don’t believe New York state should have a senator that has a 100 percent voting record with the NRA,’ said McCarthy, who lost her husband in the 1993 Long Island Railroad gun massacre.” [OK so she may not be on board with GOA or JPFO, but don’t be a hater.]

    And this:

    “Aftermath

Carolyn McCarthy, whose husband Denis McCarthy was killed by Ferguson, and whose son, Kevin McCarthy, was severely injured, was subsequently elected to the United States Congress on a platform of gun control. Some of Ferguson’s other victims and their family members have also become involved in gun control efforts.” [1. Gun control increases crime. 2. If you insist on being sheep, wouldn’t it be wise to have some of your flock packing heat? (Especially if there are no armed “sheep dogs” around to dissuade Jamaican low-lifes like Ferguson)?]

“The death penalty was established in New York following the massacre.” [But I thought the death penalty wasn’t a deterrent. So if you were wrong about that (and you were), then what we need is fewer gun controls for non-criminals.]

  5. She’s also been very pro-veteran. But it’s important to remember that Kirsten Gillibrand is a Democrat who represents a predominantly Republican district in upstate NY. Without some conservative ideals, she’d have never been elected in the first place (she unseated a GOP incumbent in 2006). The question at hand is this: Are those her real positions on the issues, or was it a smoke screen generated to fool the voters in a conservative part of the state? Now that she’s representing the whole state, I wouldn’t be shocked to see her slide a bit to the left. I hope I’m wrong, though. For what it’s worth, a friend of mine (a recovering politician, himself) has dealt with her on a number of occasions, and he has nothing but good things to say about her. Time will tell, I guess.

  6. I agree that she’s the best possible choice among NY Dems. It’s amazing a blue dog can hold office in the northeast even in a moderate district. In a national office she’ll quickly become a target for the MSM and loony left. I like what I know of her but there is something that doesn’t add up here. She has been described as Hillary’s favorite for replacing her seat. THAT is concerning. What do we not yet know about her? I’ll reserve further judgement but she’ll not move to the position of my favorite Dem. That spot will always be held for Zell Miller.

  7. REMEMBER THE OLD ADAGE– ‘IF IT SOUNDS TOO GOOD TO BE TRUE, IT PROBABLY IS.’
THE STORIES SAY SHE HAS WON TWO ELECTIONS IN A STRONG REPUBLICAN DISTRICT BUT KEEP IN MIND THESE MAY BE NY ROCKEFELLER REPUBLICANS ie DEMS. IT WOULD BE NICE, BUT I SMELL A RAT. ANYWAY, BETTER THAN ANOTHER KENNEDY.

  8. I’m from upstate (read: Northern) New York. Though in general we’re more Conservative up here, still what you generally find is that most Republicans are about as “Republican” as Gillebrand is. I think she probably flipped a coin on party affiliation.

  9. Gillabrand is a liberal who does whatever Pelosi tells her to do in the house. She espoused some moderate positions to get elected and voted that way whenever the dems had enough votes to give her some cover.

  10. She will have a tough time in the 2010 primary. Her district may be conservative but NY isn’t.

However, there is a good chance that no Democrat of stature will challenge her. A public fight with a young, bright, and attractive woman is dangerous. Cuomo will probably go for Governor, a better place for him than the Senate. The Senate produced the presidential candidates this time but normally it isn’t the path to the top.

Nice perks but she will be working at the Capitol. OTOH, she has already served in the House and is used to the smell.

  11. I live in New York’s 20th Congressional district (the one that’s getting rid of Gillibrand, luckily) and I just want to say don’t let her “blue dog” status fool you. She’s an evil machine brought up by the likes of the Clintons. I worked on John Sweeney’s campaign in 2006 and did some work with Sandy Treadwell against her this year (it was his own fault he lost…terrible campaign. nothing to do with her) and I’ve seen her participate in some of the dirtiest politics you can imagine. The only plus side to her nomination is that we can hopefully take back the House seat and she’s another reason for the Democrats to argue.

  12. agree with NorthernNY. Just moved (escaped) to KY from that neck of the woods. dont let her fool you. there is no such thing as a republican there. regardless of the label they are either regular democrats or nutjob democrats. she is a regular. also the press doesnt seem to mind that she has a 6 month old child, little experiece prior to her election one term ago and is an NRA member and about to become senator of one of the largest states in the union. Patterson should have picked Palin for the job!
