  1. Ernest Hemingway, one of my two favorite authors of novels and stories (the other being P. G. Wodehouse) was born July 21, 1899, in Oak Park, Illinois. He is sometimes quoted as referring to Oak Park as “a village of broad lawns and narrow minds”, but there’s no evidence that he ever said or wrote that.
