Trump gets impeached, Pence automatically becomes POTUS. Unless the same supermajority that just impeached Trump also bounces Pence.
But assume they can’t quite manage that vote, after all Pence didn’t bang a porn star. Pence offers up Trump as his Veep. The same Senate that just impeached Trump is going to confirm him as Veep? Nah. But ok, is the impeach vote was razor thin and a little time has passed maybe, on a bad B movie plot.
Now Pence resigns and Trump does become POTUS automatically. But now the Senate has to participate in the joke of confirming Pence right back as Veep and voiding the whole thing, likely triggering a slaughter in the next elections. Or they just impeach Trump again and get the Speaker of the House as POTUS and Nancy picks HER Veep.
You know that impeachment can include a stipulation restricting the person from ever holding a position of public trust again. It doesn’t have to, (see Alcee Hastings,) but it can.
About as plausible as al those liberal fantasies.
