During the course of a long and mis-spent time working for a living, I have occasionally run into quite anti-American European colleagues (difficult to believe that a European would be anti-American, I know, but these folks were). Generally, I would respond by saying, “Europe consists of the descendants of those who were mis-treating my ancestors and those who were being mis-treated like my ancestors but didn’t have the gumption to leave. Which category includes you?”
