There’s a word for that! Make mine a double!

Let us go to the second round of soused synonyms, phrase edition.

“Has a turkey on one’s back.”

“His lee scuppers are under.”

“Lapped the gutter.”

“Making a trip to Baltimore.”

“Not able to see through a ladder.”

“Out in left field with a catcher’s mitt on.”

And that’s it for this week. To be continued?

  1. Never heard any of these in all my long years of experience.

    How about:

    Ripped?

    Blotto?

    Feeling no pain?

    F’d up?

    Gone?

I think “Snakebit” was used in some movie — possibly The Philadelphia Story? Which also included Cary Grant saying “You were somewhat the worse — or better — for drink” or words to that effect.

  2. In a Beetle Bailey comic about 35 years ago, General Halftrack’s wife described him as being “sauced to the gills.” That’s the only time I have ever seen that particular phrase used, but, damn, it’s a good one.
