Band leader Sammy Kaye was a saxophone and clarinet player, but he never featured himself playing either instrument on any of his records. He did feature a lot of different singers, including Betty Barclay, who helped take this song to number one in April 1946.

CHICAGO, IL—Chicago Mayor Lori Lightfoot called this past Fourth of July weekend where 79 were shot in the city a “mostly peaceful” weekend at a press conference today.
“It was mostly peaceful, very calm, lots of people enjoying themselves, very fun,” she said. “Yes, there were a few run-of-the-mill murders and shootings, but hey. We just call that a Saturday here.”
“Other than the people getting shot on basically every block, it was largely calm and peaceful.”
Lightfoot also pointed out that most people who committed murders were practicing social distancing and wearing masks. “Encouraging” surveillance footage showed that Chicago’s murderers are using hand sanitizer and wiping their weapons down after each murder. “So, by that metric, I think it was definitely a success. We’re making a lot of progress on that front.”
She further stated that she suspects the murderers are actually paid Trump supporters trying to make her city look bad. (Found at the Babylon Bee.)
When I listen to podcasts of old-time radio shows I find that they often edit out the pop song segment, like the one above from the ’40s. If it was a variety show or a show where they had a dedicated singer like the Jack Benny show, the song stayed in. However it it was a sitcom that had a musical interlude then sometimes the podcaster would edit it out.
I don’t know why, I never had a podcast so I don’t know if it saved money somehow to make the show shorter. The only radio station recording of a radio show I have is a vinyl record of a Dr. Demento show from the early ’90s. So I don’t know if they source their shows for podcasts that way or not.
Any podcasters with some insight?
I wonder if it might be a musical copyright issue.
Good point
My guess is that it is one of two things 1) The podcaster just doesn’t like some of the singers and since they aren’t part of the show’s story, they get cut out. I shamefully admit that when I first started listening to Jack Benny I used to fast forward Dennis’ songs (I am 53, so they were really goofy to my rock ‘n roll ears) or 2) they were trying to trim for time to keep the podcast to a specific length.
