Clear Your Schedule: Michelle Obama Is Launching a Podcast
Delish | 7/17/2020 | Madison Feller

Deep in the middle of a global pandemic, it’s only natural to want to hear from those who give you comfort and bring you joy.

Former first lady Michelle Obama knew what we needed. On Thursday, Obama took to social media to announce she’s hosting “The Michelle Obama Podcast” on Spotify in conjunction with her and former president Barack Obama’s production company, Higher Ground. In an Instagram post about the show, she wrote, “It’s been a tough year, and I hope this podcast can help us explore what we’re going through and spark new conversations with our loved ones.”

In her caption, Obama explained that in the first season of the show, she’ll talk to “some of the people most dear to me,” including her mother, brother, friends, and colleagues. CNN reports some of those guests will also include late-night host Conan O’Brien, Obama White House advisor Valerie Jarrett, and journalist Michele Norris.

She writes that she hopes the episodes will help people open up new and difficult conversations with the people they care about, as a way to build understanding and empathy for one another.

Random Thoughts: Voting and Netflix Stuff

Goonies never say die, which is why they failed their German class.

The goal is to get to a society where we pretty much never think about race and just treat each other as equals, but people keep saying the way to get there is a detour through constantly think about race in absolutely everything.

Solo was a perfectly cromulent Star Wars movie.

Netflix suggests The Karate Kid Part III
“Why would you think I’d want to watch that?”
“Well, you just watched The Karate Kid Parts I and II.”
“I’m still not following.”

“There’s also one starring Hillary Swank.”
“That’s a lie.”

Why doesn’t the Democrats get canceled for being the party of slavery? Apparently the statute of limitations for canceling goes back to at least 1619.

Watching Back to the Future Part II with my kids. I’m trying to see what they predicted right about 2015. So far, just the TV aspect ratio.
This plays way differently now because when you see rich Biff, you instantly want to trust him since he reminds you of our successful president.

So exactly how much do we have to pay in reparations to never hear the phrase “white fragility” again?

I can’t imagine why some people say with a straight face that the solution is to “vote.” I can’t even imagine an outcome with the current choices to 2020 that will make things even marginally better.
It’s like our problem is that we’re being attacked by zombies and preyed on by vampires and our solution is to adjust the ratio of zombies to vampires.

Cultural appropriation isn’t a thing, and if you think it is, you’re a racist.

If you’re so against slavery, why do you still buy stuff from China?

You’re not “pro-science” if you put up total COVID-19 cases as if that’s some useful, informative metric by itself.

I only heard a lot of people say it wasn’t funny, but I enjoyed Space Force on Netflix. I liked all the characters, and the Carell/Malkovich dynamic was really good.
I didn’t care for the whole thing about his wife being in prison and they never tell you why. I had to Google to make sure I didn’t miss something. That’s dumb.

At its current trajectory, eventually The Lincoln Project will ask for funds for a time machine so they can go back in time and murder Lincoln before he forms the Republican Party.

The Old Guard was such a paint by numbers action movie in the beginning, it bored me. I became more interested nearer the end.
I think thematically what it needed was seeing the Old Guard on a regular mission doing some good or something. We only ever saw them on the run and it never really establish why we were supposed to root for them (except through exposition).
I also saw that it’s the first comic book movie directed by a black woman, which I had trouble believing because there’s been a million billion comic book movies now. I guess bad old racist Hollywood for taking this long.

“They can’t delay Tenet because of a little virus!”
“Is a Christopher Nolan movie really worth killing grandma over?”
“Yes. Most of them, at least.”

They’re going spend hundreds of millions of dollars to get us to pick between Trump and Biden.

We went to the moon a long long time ago.

I don’t know about the Trump strategy of trying to paint Mr. Magoo as a radical extremist.

If you were impressed by that lady getting naked in front of Portland police, they have powerful protests like that every night at a strip club.

If you abolish the police, won’t the whole Trayvon Martin/George Zimmerman type incident happen more often?
Actually, what happens when someone gets shot and there are no police? Anyone going to look into that, or do you just kind of shrug?
I know I say this about a lot of left-wing ideas, but I don’t think you thought this through very far.

It’s Winchester, the coolest little dude!
